Avantor, Inc. Laboratory Services Co-Ordinator - 12 month contract in Cambridge, United Kingdom

Job SummaryAvantor Services provides a broad variety of on-site Laboratory and Materials Management Services for major pharmaceutical customers and works collaboratively with the client to provide resource to deliver core scientific activities. Hodgkin requires an individual to support the laboratory research programme as a Lab Services Co-ordinator.This role is multi-disciplinary and expected to be extremely flexible. The successful candidate will support the day to day operations of a defined set of laboratories, including Materials Management. The Lab Service Co-Ordinator role directly and indirectly supports scientists across R&D functions within AstraZeneca, allowing scientists to concentrate on their core role. This role is to be primarily lab-based, focusing on the delivery of scientific technical support to the R&D laboratories in accordance with Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Standards requirements.The working hours are 10am - 6pm (not flexible).

Key Tasks

Driving FM Service Delivery

  • Ensure activities are performed with quality and to defined schedules within a specified area. Act and report on deviations

  • Contribute to the laboratory operational efficiency by liaising with FM suppliers and stakeholders

  • Assists with booking in, hosting and visits from internal/external partners, including for inspections/audits (main point of contact for hosting internal contractors)

  • Act as a contact for key customers

  • Optimises use of shared space and maintains BAU throughout the changing footprint, p roactively identify and support operational efficiencies by implementing process improvements resulting in time and cost-savings for the customer

  • Creation, maintenance and updating relevant documentation in support of service delivery, compliance and training. Report on KPIs, metrics, SLAs and weekly tasks

    Lab Support

  • Proactively deliver the operational laboratory support managing workload and service levels as required by the research group(s)

  • Preventative maintenance, cleaning & documentation of several laboratory instruments including incubators, tissue culture hoods & fumecupboards

  • Management of consumables & reagents, including Point of Use (PoU) Kanban areas by daily monitoring and replenishment, and liaising with in-house media prep

  • Monitor and keep communal areas clean and tidy

  • Receipt and unpacking of some temperature sensitive parcel deliveries

  • Media preparation and aliquoting of tissue culture reagents (use of aseptic techniques)

  • Management & shipment of pipettes for calibration and servicing off-site

  • Support co-ordination of waste management, a ssist in study preparation

  • Adhere to SHE regulations, PPE policies and follow Avantor Work Instructions & Risk Assessments

    Sample Dispatch

  • Pack, prepare and ship R&D samples (biological, chemical, radioactive, dangerous goods etc.) globally ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and transport regulations (air/road/sea) including Dangerous Goods regulations (IATA, ADR, IMDG) and DfT requirements

  • Archiving of documentation

    Procurement

  • Ensure timely receipt of materials to support the scientific community

  • Liaison with key purchasing contacts to leverage best price, and proactively managing stock requests

  • Procurement of specialist products using AZ’s iBuy purchasing platform

  • Track orders via courier groups to ensure delivery of supply chain

Skills, Knowledge & competencies

  • Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively

  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills

  • Problem-solving capabilities & confidence to react promptly to deliver the best service possible

  • Good planning, organisational and analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Basic IT skills required (advance Microsoft Excel preferable)

  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment and in a customer-facing role is an advantage

  • Experience of shipping dangerous goods to IATA/ADR regulations advantageous

  • A scientific qualification is preferable, or experience working within a scientific environment

  • Knowledge of SHE requirements in a laboratory environment, k nowledge of GLP regulations

  • Self-motivated, energetic and dependable with a clear attention to detail
