S&P Global Sr. Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineering in Calgary, Alberta

The Team:

The Production Systems Support (PSS) team handles the creation of over 2,000 XpressFeed financial data packages, with a focus on troubleshooting, incident management, and problem resolution across diverse systems. Key responsibilities include on-call production support, service request fulfillment, and infrastructure configuration management. The team also manages infrastructure migration, disaster recovery planning, and testing, ensuring high availability. In addition, PSS utilizes advanced Site Reliability Engineering practices, including automation and notifications.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • On-Call Production Support: Provide troubleshooting expertise, incident, and problem management, ensuring minimal system downtime.

  • Service Request Fulfillment: Support internal groups by fulfilling service requests promptly and efficiently.

  • Infrastructure Configuration Management: Oversee and maintain infrastructure configuration, ensuring optimal system performance and scalability.

  • Knowledge Management: Write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for team training and operational procedures.

  • Infrastructure Migration Planning and Support: Plan, implement, and validate infrastructure migrations to ensure seamless transitions with minimal disruptions.

  • Disaster Recovery Planning and Testing: Implement disaster recovery strategies, including testing and failover implementation, to ensure high availability and business continuity.

  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE): Utilize advanced notification systems and automation to monitor and maintain the reliability of production systems proactively.

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have at least five years of professional experience in roles such as cloud engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

  • Technical Operations Expertise: Act as a TechOps team with in-depth knowledge of AWS services to optimize cloud-based systems and infrastructure.

  • Terraform as Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with Terraform for managing infrastructure deployments and automation.

  • EKS Hands-on Experience:Proficiency in Amazon EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service) to manage containerized applications and services.

  • Proficiency in working with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.

  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and integrate them into existing systems.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good to have industry-recognized cloud engineering qualifications and certifications, such as AWS and/or Terraform.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python.

  • Proficiency in both Windows and Linux operating systems.
