POSITION OVERVIEW:
Startec Refrigeration Service is recruiting a Project Manager to work at our Shepard Office location (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6) . The Project Manager will lead a team of procurement and construction personnel to deliver projects on budget and on schedule while collaborating with VP of Projects and the Project Engineering team. In addition to fabricating equipment packages on site and in our fabrication facility, Startec Refrigeration provides full-service engineering, procurement, and fabrication services to clients in the recreational and food/beverage industries among others. Startec is looking for a Project Manager with experience in pressure piping and construction of a variety of facilities (arenas, food/beverage plants, pharmaceuticals, etc.). This position actively participates in a culture of continuous improvement with direction, development, and execution of progressive solutions within the field construction department.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):
Project Planning & Execution (Weighting 25%) Project Plan Development
Responsible for full project flow and management as per Startec processes, including but not limited to: Project Kick off, execution, monitoring & control, delivery and close out.
Develop, communicate and manage project deliverables (including tasks, deadlines, risks, etc.) to the project team
Review and understand commercial proposals and client specifications as related to projects, ensuring built projects are reflective of agreed deliverables
Project Execution
Manage multiple domestic projects across Canada but mainly in Alberta, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope and budget
Coordinate day-to-day field activities to support project execution
Develop project bill of materials and approve all project drawings
Oversee drafting to prepare layouts and detail drawings
Professionally and proactively identify, communicate, and resolve project conflicts/road blocks/learning as they arise
Risk Management
Identify potential project risks including technical, financial, logistical, and external
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of risks
COST & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (Weighting 20%) Budgeting & Forecasting
Develop, monitor, and maintain a detailed project budget that accounts for all anticipated costs including labor, material, equipment, and overhead expenses.
Collaborate with estimators and project teams to develop accurate cost estimates at various project stages
Change Order Management
Management of change process including preparing, reporting, and managing project related change orders in accordance with Startec processes
Communicate changes to relevant stakeholders and ensure proper documentation and implementation
Resource Allocation
Weekly or bi-weekly site visits of project sites.
Ensure adequate resources (manpower, equipment, materials, etc.) are available and assigned to the project deliverables
Identify resource shortages or excesses and take proactive measures to address them
COMPLIANCE (Weighting 20%) Quality Control
Develop a comprehensive quality control plan for projects, outlining quality standards, specifications, and procedures
Resolve issues, provide direction, and conduct quality assurance checks on project deliverables
Comply will all regulator boards and project requirements, while maintaining the highest level of safety and quality
Health & Safety
Be an active participant and promote our HSE management system at Startec.
Complete required HSE training and attend HSE meetings as required
DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING (Weighting 15%) Project Documentation
Manage client and subcontractor communication, correspondence, and reporting to maintain and build valuable relationships
Prepare project documentation including manuals and operating/control descriptions
Project Progress Reporting
Accountable for monitoring project performance and preparing progress reports
Project Close- Out & Lessons Learned
Conduct sessions to reflect on completed projects, gathering and documenting both positive and negative experiences.
Efficiently review completed projects to identify and document key takeaways, create a comprehensive knowledge repository, and highlight areas for future improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field or a technical bachelor’s degree or trade related to the organization (e.g., Refrigeration Mechanic, Mechanical P.Eng or CET, etc.)
Minimum of 2+ years in project management, estimating, or mechanical foreman role
Excellent project management skills, including project planning, budgeting, and risk management.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships.
Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and compliance standards (ASME, ANSI, codes, knowledge of CSA B-52 codes an asset)
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing market dynamics.
Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented with a focus on achieving business objectives.
Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
