Job Title: Production Line Foreman
Location: Calgary, AB
Job Purpose: We are hiring for a Production Line Foreman to join our client’s team. This key role is responsible for providing visible, positive leadership to plant workers, ensuring productivity, quality control, and safe practices. As the Production Line Foreman, you will be essential to the success of the plant, fostering a positive work environment, and contributing to the overall success of the company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain strong communication with the Production Manager, Export Administrator, Quality Control Officer, Production Shift Foreman, and Production Line Workers to ensure efficient, safe, and effective product processing and movement.
Coordinate inventory with the Production Manager, Export Administrator, and Quality Control Officer to ensure proper shed inventory.
Oversee the movement of product from shed to production and from production to shipping.
Ensure all Production Line Workers are informed of their duties, trained on equipment, and adhere to safety standards, including appropriate clothing, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and safe machine operation.
Communicate with management about any concerns regarding Production Line Workers, including issues with performance, safety breaches, and disciplinary actions.
Manage crew member reviews, performance evaluations, and ensure accurate records are maintained.
Ensure proper maintenance of machines and equipment, including completing safety inspections and reporting work needed.
Oversee quality control at every stage of production, ensuring products meet required standards for moisture, mold, shape, presentation, and packaging.
Troubleshoot minor machinery issues and ensure safe equipment operation.
Verify and validate orders, ensuring proper weights, formats, labels, and blocks, and completing all load documentation.
Foster a culture of safety, ensuring safe operations and reporting all safety-related matters, including near misses and accidents.
Work actively with Production Line Workers, operating machines and equipment as necessary.
Maintain reporting systems for Bills of Lading, scale tickets, foreman logs, inventory, and accident reports.
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Production Manager, General Manager, and other departments to contribute to organizational success.
Ensure adherence to all company policies, procedures, CFIA requirements, and Quality Control System Manual.
Complete all production reporting before the end of each shift, including identifying any issues affecting daily production.
Be available to answer calls and texts from the company-provided phone during work hours.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Forklift and skid steer operator tickets
Class Five Driver's License and a clear Driver's Abstract (or reliable mode of transportation)
Standard First Aid Certification
Additional Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of certified export-quality hay production, particularly timothy and alfalfa, would be an asset.
Experience with export forage production Quality Assurance Principles is beneficial.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
Working Conditions:
Shift work required; including weekends and evenings.
Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Good vision, hearing, and smell are required.
Physical and Work Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
Required to wear steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and coveralls.
Safety mask must be worn at all times when in the processing plant.
