ManpowerGroup Maintenance Manager in Calgary, Alberta

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance operations of their facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all machinery, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained in excellent working condition to support operational efficiency and safety.

Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Manager leads the Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. This position will act to increase operational effectiveness, improve equipment performance, reduce downtime and will manage and implement improvement plans to ensure that the equipment can run to the maximum efficiency and output. This role will ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to and will manage the maintenance team to foster best practices and establish standard policies and procedures while also mentoring and leading the department. The Maintenance Manager will implement and manage preventative maintenance and continual improvement by highlighting deficiencies and recommending areas to progress training, working practices and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Effectively delegates and plans any maintenance activities or small projects on key equipment including forage presses, loaders, forklifts, truck scale and ancillary equipment. • Adheres to managing and documenting daily and weekly checks to ensure smooth operation of equipment onsite.

• Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensure full preventative maintenance is carried out and lead the team to deliver effectively.

• Manage the team to limit machine downtown, working with Production Supervisors and Mechanic Team members in troubleshooting system errors and dysfunctional operation of machine components.

• Provide support, coach and assist in diagnosing complex and common faults of mechanical equipment.

• Creates and manages spare and replacement part inventory. Orders parts as required to ensure stock is sufficient should it be deemed necessary if the need is urgent.

• Manages to maintain shop areas and tools are kept clean and in safe working conditions.

• Ensures accurate reporting of all defects, downtime, equipment errors that may affect the workplace. Gathers information to propose effective mechanical solutions or changes to current processes to increase production efficiencies.

• Creating and improving maintenance procedures and ensuring implementation.

• Procures and work closely with third parties and contractors, overseas activities as required.

• Works with Senior Management to produce the most cost-effective solutions for equipment repairs, additions and upgrades.

• Manages statistical data and develops a mainstream process for equipment repair reporting.

• Support plant safety programs through hosting and attending regular safety meetings, hands-on training of maintenance personnel and compliance with plant safety programs. Works to assist in eliminating identified plant safety hazards.

• Foster a culture of employee engagement and accountability, ability to set clear expectations, clearly communicate and effectively listen.

• Ensure semi-annual performance and development reviews of Maintenance staff are completed. Ensure disciplinary reviews and actions are administered, documented, and appropriately managed in compliance with HR policies.

• Communicate effectively with cross-functional leaders to collaborate strategic planning, problem-solving and performance achievements.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in plant maintenance specializing in agriculture, manufacturing, or a similar environment is essential.

• Licensed Millwright or Heavy Duty Mechanic. Other trades may be considered based on job experience. • Post-secondary studies in either Engineering, Science, or other related technical discipline would be an asset.

• Proven experience in a similar capacity, with strong people management skills. Enjoys interacting with people, building, fostering, and leading a high-functioning team.

• Thrives in a rapid growth, challenging and fast paced environment.

• Demonstrates the ability to de-escalate and resolve conflict effectively.

• Trustworthy and punctual, can thrive in a shift focused work environment.

• Proven history of leading teams to achieve increasing objectives year-over-year.

• A safety track record.

• Class Five Driver's License and a Clean Driver's Abstract.

• Demonstrated leadership and ability to lead and motivate individuals.

• Ability to facilitate complex problem-solving through good organization, management skills, and written and verbal communication.

• Optimist, self-starter, eager to learn new things and continuously improve.

• Knowledge or experience in forage (i.e., Timothy, Alfalfa and Oat Hay) production and/or processing would be an asset.

• Knowledge of and sufficient skill using Microsoft Office products (i.e., Excel, Office, and PowerPoint) and computers.

• Track record of successfully supervising industrial maintenance teams to ensure staff is sufficiently trained and alert to prevent operator errors and incidents.

Working conditions:

• Must be willing to work any shifts scheduled 7 days a week, including day and night shifts and over the weekend to provide adequate supervision.

• 10-12 hours per day or as needed. 50 hours or more work in a week will be expected, specifically during the harvest season (July, September and October).

• Exposure to noise, dust, hay dust and adverse weather conditions.

• Exposure to elevated levels of hay dust may aggravate allergies and asthma.

• This role is onsite and located in a rural area; personal transportation is needed to and from the plant.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to work during seasonal weather conditions.

• Ability to stand for extended amounts of time and work on the production floor.

• Ability to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds.

• Required to wear appropriate PPE in plant
