Your Opportunity

Stantec’s urban planning and design studio in Calgary is growing across western Canada and we are leading an increasing amount of high profile and complex planning and development projects with multi-disciplinary and integrated service offerings. This includes downtown and established area master plans and strategies, mixed-use and residential master plans, public realm master plans, intermunicipal planning and servicing strategies, business case development, and transit oriented development.

We are seeking a Junior Planning Technician who relishes complex project delivery, working with large teams, helping to drive project outcomes, and has an eagerness to learn.

Your focus in this role will be working alongside our planning team in the preparation of supporting information, maps, and statistics, for Outline Plans, Area Structure Plans, Land Use Redesignations and various other community development applications. Our planning and design team in the Calgary office totals thirteen staff which provides for a close working environment to assist you in your professional development.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of plans, supporting figures, and graphics using Civil 3D and other software

  • Data management, statistical analysis, and other technical support tasks.

  • Researching and compiling information on a variety of planning issues

  • Communicating and collaborating with other multi-disciplinary team members on relevant aspects of projects.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Knowledge and experience of planning terminology, practices, procedures, standards and work methods in the Calgary Region.

  • Demonstrated high standard of quality, accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to multi-task within specific time constraints.

  • Excellent communication both written and oral, along with strong problem solving skills.

Education and Experience:

  • A Technical Diploma in planning from a recognized Institute of Technology or College.

  • Strong understanding of a current version of Civil 3D design software.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs.

  • Experience or knowledge of ArcGIS, 3D Studio, Rhino, Sketchup, etc. would be considered an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Stantec is proud to offer a hybrid work environment and there may be opportunity to work in our local office and remotely from your home office. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
