Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting aPeer/Recovery Support Specialist (Peer Support Specialist)to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in theirPre-prosecution Diversion Programwithin theDivision of Family and Clinic Services.

    As aPeer Support Specialistand public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will provide peer support services to individuals participating in the Pre-Prosecution Diversion Program in coordination with the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Individuals participating in this program will have unmanaged behavioral health conditions and are at risk of entering or repeatedly entering deeper into the justice system. This role is essential in providing guidance, assistance, and encouragement to program participants as they navigate challenges associated with their behavioral health conditions and legal circumstances.

    This is a limited service position through June 2026 and may be extended as funding allows. Length of Limited-Service appointments are defined as appointments tied to funding for a specific program, grant or project that is not indefinite in nature.

    This position may include a teleworking option from within Idaho.

    Our generous benefits package elevates the total compensation for a full-time Peer/Recovery Support Specialist. Our offering transforms the hourly pay range from $17.74 - $20.87/hour to an estimated $28.30 - $32.13/hour, showcasing the value we invest in your well-being and professional growth.

    Typical Duties:

    Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.

  • Offer peer coaching and mentoring in both individual and/or group settings.

  • Provide recovery, education, and support services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance addictions.

  • Deliver tailored support services to adult clients in a variety of settings.

  • Instruct and empower clients in problem-solving, daily living, self-management, and connecting with community supports.

  • Monitor client goals, achievements, and agreements; make detailed progress notes.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated care and comprehensive support.

  • Assist clients in completing documents necessary to implement services, explaining applicable laws, policies, and procedures to clients.

  • Collect client data and arrange for support services, including medical care, legal assistance, housing, employment, and other public and private resources.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. All required experience and/or education must be listed under the work history section of this application OR on your resume and must include a detailed explanation of your roles and responsibilities at each relevant employer.

    This position requires incumbents not related to a Canyon Commissioner or other Canyon County elected Officials by blood or marriage within the second degree of kindred.

    Minimum Qualifications (MQ):

  • Certification or eligibility to obtain certification as a Peer Support Specialist, Certified Peer Recovery Coach or Certified Recovery Coach in Idaho

  • Certification must be obtained within one year of appointment

    MQ Specialty :

  • Valid Driver’s License

    Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local Behavioral Health System and Community Resources.

  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented principles and practices.

  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries while developing healthy, supportive relationships.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with diverse individuals.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.

  • Fluency in speaking, writing, and/or reading both English and Spanish.
