Actalent Product Development Engineer in Cadillac, Michigan

Job Title: Product Development EngineerJob Description

The Product Development Engineer will lead the design and development of new products within the filter department. This role involves building concepts, implementing processes for product assembly, and managing projects ranging from 6 months to 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new products within the filter department.

  • Create and manage processes for assembling products.

  • Design fixtures using Solidworks, or collaborate with a Sr. CAD Designer for complex parts.

  • Analyze performance specifications and tolerance stack-ups to make design recommendations.

  • Set up and revise assembly processes as needed, ensuring Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Test and create concepts using 3D printers, ultrasonic welding, and other technologies.

  • Communicate with production staff to ensure understanding of assembly processes.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure component compliance with product requirements, potentially involving travel.

  • Run trials and analyze data using statistical techniques like Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Gage R&R.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 5+ years of product development experience, capable of leading projects from concept to production.

  • Proficiency in Solidworks, particularly in fixture design.

  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and data analysis.

  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, ultrasonic welding, and 3D printing.

  • Understanding of plastics, rubber manufacturing, polyurethane, and machine building.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in product design and development.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and Excel.

  • Knowledge of Gantt charts for project management.

Work Environment

This is an on-site role, primarily working in an office setting and a prototyping lab or workshop. The majority of the time (75%) will be spent in the lab/workshop. The role reports to a manager based in the UK, with day-to-day management from a Principal Scientist on-site. Collaboration with local scientists and maintenance personnel is required. Some travel to suppliers and customers may be necessary, amounting to about 3 weeks per year. Flexible starting hours between 6-9am are available, along with a 9-80 schedule which includes every other Friday off. Additional benefits include Udemy access after 6 months, 2 weeks of vacation, and 10 paid holidays.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $49.04
