Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department at our M Health Faiview Ridges Hospital located in Burnsville, MN.

Emergency Department Registered Nurses provide emergency nursing care for a diversified population of all age distributions and all problem types in a very lively Emergency Room. The patient population served by the Emergency Department consists of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients requiring or seeking medical care. Twenty percent of our ED volume is pediatric.

About the Fairview Ridges Emergency Department

Fairview Ridges Emergency Department is a Level 3 Trauma Center located in Burnsville, MN near the 35E and 35 W conjunctions. The hospital has been providing state-of-the-art care and community services to the residents of the scenic Minnesota Valley since 1984. We have 45 beds, see an average of 191 patients daily, and a yearly census of approximately 66,000 and growing! Team members include Board Certified Emergency Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, Transport, and Case Managers.

Schedule: This position will be working a 0.6 FTE, 12 hour evening shifts, 48 hours per pay period, with an every third weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

As an Emergency Department RN, you will be responsible for:

  • Triage patients effectively according to policies, laws, and resources.

  • Uses the nursing process to provide care for any patient presenting to the department. An individualized plan of care is developed in collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team to support the physical and emotional needs of a wide variety of ill/ injured patients.

  • Prioritizes the care of multiple patients with varied presentations.

  • Initiates timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risks to the patient.

  • Collaborates with the patient, family, and healthcare team to develop and execute a plan of care to address patient presentations to the ED including illnesses and injuries in all age groups.

  • Provides effective and timely patient/family education related to the treatment plan.

  • Recognizes and responds to subtle or rapid changes in patient status.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Current MN RN license

  • 1 year of RN Emergency Department, pediatric/adult critical care, or telemetry nursing

  • BLS for Health Care Providers

  • ACLS certification within 30 days of hire

  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) and TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) will be required of all staff within the first year of employment. CEN and CPEN strongly encouraged

  • Strong computer skills

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with a diverse patient population

  • Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN

  • Emergency Department RN experience strongly preferred.

  • Certification by the board of Certification for Emergency Nursing as a CEN, or CPEN (and/or course in advanced trauma nursing (ATCN).

Vaccination Update

Current employees must have completed both vaccination schedules on or before October 31, 2021.Beginning August 9, 2021, any new hires who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are required to receive their first dose prior to their start date and their second dose (if receiving Moderna or Pfizer vaccines) within 4 weeks of their start date.
