Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Burnaby, BC with extensive experience in geotechnical earthquake engineering, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, liquefaction analysis and dynamic analysis. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience in the design and construction of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, embankments, railways, highways and airports, excavation support systems, tunnels, trenchless, and ground improvement methods (stone columns, soil mixing, etc.). The successful candidate will have opportunity to work on major transportation, water resources, marine, civil infrastructure and building projects. The successful candidate will have a key role in the development and growth of our geotechnical practice in Canada. This is a Full-time role.

work with diverse teams of engineers, designers and drafters from conceptual design through preliminary and final design;
manage projects and be responsible for completion on schedule and financial performance;
manage people including technicians, junior engineers and intermediate engineers;
resolve complex geotechnical issues;
write, compile, and review geotechnical reports and proposals for major projects;
prepare and present technical papers and contribute to advancement of earth science in our area of technical specialization;
maintain quality throughout a project and implement improvements when determined;
prepare project summary reports;
resolve claims with respect to deferring ground conditions:
encourage growth within the group and improve the general knowledge base throughout the company;
develop and sustain long-lasting business relationships with clients;
be a role model and technical mentor for our staff; and,
travel within Canada when required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical, geological and geotechnical earthquake engineering.
Eligible for P. Eng. registration in Canada within a year.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from CEAB-accredited institution.
10+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering on complex multidisciplinary project.
Expert user of software including FLAC, PLAXIS, DEEPSOIL
Experience in client service and business development.
Strong understanding of finite element theory for soil and rock including knowledge of advanced geotechnics as it relates to real soil behavior.
Knowledge of elastic, elastoplastic and advanced constitutive models for linear and nonlinear materials.
Advanced knowledge of models associated with seepage and consolidation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
Exhibits initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.
Experience with and ability to make informed decisions regarding intrusive and non-intrusive field investigations, basic and advanced laboratory testing and material characterization.
Experience in performing, interpreting and applying results of Cyclic Direct Simple Shear and Cyclic Triaxial testing.
Experience in performing, interpreting and applying seismic refraction/reflection and Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) for geotechnical applications.
Experience with coupled and uncoupled seepage analysis, slope stability analysis and deformation analysis.
Experience with liquefaction assessment and seismic engineering related to civil engineering projects including bridges, buildings, tunnels and dams.
Ability to interpret seismic hazard reports and their application to seismic design.
Experience with conceptual and feasibility level design, preliminary design, detailed design, construction, and site closure.
Experience with field investigation techniques such as CPT, SPT, PMT, DMT and their utilization in the static and seismic design.
Ability to evaluate seismic slope stability, lateral spreading displacement and liquefaction induced settlements.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Additional Information
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $105,000.00 - $120,000.00.
