The Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science and the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program ( DPT ) at the University of Vermont ( UVM ) invite applications for a 9, 10, or 12-month clinical assistant or associate professor with expertise in treating patients with neurologic conditions. Appointment term will depend on faculty candidate expertise and alignment with programmatic needs. Rank will be determined based on prior academic experience and demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching.

Successful candidates will be physical therapists who hold a DPT degree plus neurologic clinical specialization ( NCS ) and who have or are eligible for licensure in the state of Vermont. Preference will be given to candidates who also hold a terminal acadmic degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc); however, all qualified applicants are welcome to apply. Candidates are expected to have an interest in collaborative teamwork and be committed to teaching, advising, service and professional development of our students. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the neurologic patient management and movement system curriculums, based on programmatic needs and content expertise. This position also has clinical practice, scholarship and academic service responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications (Required):

A professional doctoral physical therapy degree, i.e. DPT from an accredited university.

  • Board certified neurologic clinical specialist ( NCS ).

  • A Physical Therapist who is licensed in any United States jurisdiction and eligible for licensure in Vermont.

  • Prior teaching experience (in some capacity) in an entry-level DPT educational program.

  • Strong communication and collaborative abilities.

The DPT faculty model academic, clinical and research expertise, in addition to innovative teaching and learning opportunities (www.uvm.edu/cnhs/rms/physical_therapy). The small class size of 40 students allows for a variety of teaching approaches between clinical and tenure-track faculty, as well as time for clinical and scholarly activity. The DPT program is an integral component of the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UVM . Uniquely positioned on the UVM main campus, along with our academic colleagues in Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Nutrition and Psychology and our clinical colleagues at the University of Vermont Medical Center, the College provides an exciting academic environment with excellent collaborative relationship potential for new faculty. The Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science is comprised of several related disciplines which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise science and emergency medicine services. A Master’s degree in Physical Activity and Wellness and an interprofessional Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences also contribute to a growing Department. Departmental facilities include the Human Motion Analysis laboratory which houses multiple force plates, EMG , and three-dimensional biomechanical equipment for static and dynamic human movement research; a physical activity and exercise behavior lab; and a neurophysiology lab that utilizes TMS and EEG . Teaching space includes our recently renovated 2,700 sq-ft lab equipped with contemporary teaching technology. Students and faculty also have access to our state-of-the-art, collaborative, interprofessional Clinical Simulation Laboratory.
