Interim K-8 Literacy Coordinator (Temporary) Position: 1 Interim K-8 Literacy Coordinator Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Learning SUMMARY: The emphasis for the Literacy Coordinate will be on supporting Reading Specialists, principals, teachers, and students in the area of literacy. The person will work closely with Reading Specialists in both the elementary and middle schools and the Assistant Superintendent to accomplish key areas from the following list. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Literacy Coordinator to identify these key areas for 2024-2025. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides K–8 curriculum and instructional leadership in the area of literacy. Analyzes the Literacy Report to map out and implement viable recommendations from the report with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning. Works on adoption of curriculum for K-8 with the curriculum adoption committee and the Assistant Superintendent of Learning, including streamlining the apps and assessments being used. Works with the curriculum adoption committee and reading specialists on the implementation plan and supports needed to roll out the chosen curriculum in 2025-2026. Works with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning and the building-level principals to ensure the implementation of curriculum, assessment, progress monitoring, and fidelity of interventions (i.e., MTSS structure). Works with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning to support reading specialists to be reading coaches, focused on providing feedback to teachers on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Works on curriculum and updating scope and sequences, as well as mentor text templates. Facilitates reading specialist meetings and provides embedded professional development on the Science of Reading and writing to reading specialists, principals, and teachers. Meets regularly with other reading specialists to relay information, new ideas, and/or changes to interventionists and/or teachers, including, but not limited to Science of Reading information; collaborates on interdisciplinary curriculum connection and to implement programs that meet the goals and priorities of the district Works with the Administrative Assistant of Instruction with Amplify, Read Naturally, Lexia, and iReady programs or programs used to add/delete students and is the contact person for issues that arise. Works with Assistant Superintendent of Learning, principals, and reading specialists to provide parents/caregivers with updated information on the literacy curriculum K-8. Collaborates with BPS District Communications to send benchmark assessments home, including iReady and DIBELS 8. Plans and creates assessment calendar and district initiative PD dates (including but not limited to Keys to Literacy). Collaborates with the building principals and reading specialists to create schedules for literacy support. Works with Central Office staff, including directors, to provide literacy knowledge. Evaluates reading specialists. Manages school spreadsheets and district data sheets. Works with the Administrative Assistant of Instruction to ensure that the district data sheets for principal’s data meetings are available. Works with the building principal or designee in looking at student data and attends district data meetings. Performs any other related duties as requested by the Assistant Superintendent. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Elementary or English certification. Reading Specialist certification. (Special Education certification preferred) Administrative certification. At least 5 years of lead-classroom experience (preferably in both elementary and middle schools) Demonstrated content area expertise in reading, writing, and MTSS structure. Knowledge of assessment practices, including examples of use of assessment to inform instruction and program evaluation. Background and confidence using technology to support instructional strategies in content area and infusion of emerging tools into curriculum development. Evidence of curriculum development experience and UBD process. Demonstrated commitment to Learning, Equity, and Thriving. Ability to collaborate with teachers in a variety of educational roles (i.e., interventionists, special educators, Director of Special Education, Director of English Learner Education, etc.). Has a positive demeanor/ pro-active outlook in working with a variety of stakeholders. Able to work both independently and as part of a team. Able to maintain confidentiality. Has attention to detail. COMPENSATION: This is a 200 Day Work Year (Unit D) and additional expectations related to professional development beyond the school day/year.
