Providence Director Diagnostic Imaging - St Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California

The Director provides leadership and management direction for Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiodiagnostic, Vascular Lab, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Interventional Radiology to insure the efficient, effective and quality delivery of inpatient and outpatient services. The Director plans, coordinates and supervises the clinical, technical, administrative, and financial functions in accordance with system policies and goals. The Director plans and develops appropriate strategic relationships for the delivery and expansion of Imaging, Cardiodiagnostic, Vascular, Coronary Catheterization, Electrophysiology and Interventional Radiologic services. This individual facilitates collaborative working relationships with programs and departments within and outside the institution to assure appropriate quality and timely testing for patients/clients. The Director works collaboratively with department Medical Directors to insure optimal inpatient and outpatient service delivery to patients and medical staff. The Director is an expert on imaging testing, processes and procedures, reimbursement, referrals, and regulations. The Director performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the Providence Health & Services mission and philosophy. This position reports to the Associate Administrator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates, develops and manages hospital/department operating and capital budgets and allocation of funds based upon reviews of department estimates/ recommendations. Reviews department labor and monthly management reports; identifies opportunities for improvement, develops variance reports and ensures execution of corrective action plans. Develops and monitors performance metrics.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information.

  • Oversees and monitors direct reports for timely performance evaluations and personnel actions. Holds direct reports accountable and develops ongoing employee retention strategies.

  • Directs preparation of work schedules, priorities, and personnel assignment through Operations Manager and Supervisors (Leads). Assists Direct Reports as needed to project the number, type, and use of personnel for current and future needs for the department within budget guidelines. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in healthcare trends and uses that information to assess technical and personnel needs, recommending changes where appropriate.

  • Identifies patient/physician/employee needs and develops/executes quality programs to meet those needs. Ensures delivery of quality, safe services to all patients. Oversees quality management activities of imaging departments to ensure quality, effectiveness and employee/patient safety. Develops and monitors performance improvement metrics. Assesses day-to-day activities to ensure continuous improvement. Resolves problems relating to operations to meet program objectives and customer needs.

  • Collaborates with medical directors, physicians and clinical departments to develop, recommend, implement and maintain departmental policies, procedures and programs to ensure departmental effectiveness, quality, operational excellence, and patient safety, as well as meeting environmental and infection control standards.

  • Develops individual objectives consistent with the Providence Health System – California Region. Measures and reports on individual objectives quarterly. Directs and is responsible for operational, financial, quality management, and business development functions and activities for assigned departments.

  • Identifies and evaluates trends in health care, local and economic conditions, and competitive institutions, and develops strategies to respond to these trends. In collaboration with the medical directors, business development team and administration, develops operational business plans which identify priorities, growth strategies, and tactics for execution on a yearly basis. Monitors the status of special projects and execution of tactics on an ongoing basis.

  • Compiles data and prepares regularly scheduled or special reports and analyses for department, administrative and regulatory purposes, e.g. department dashboards, NPSG, etc. Ensures imaging modalities are compliant with regulatory agencies.

  • Regularly reviews contracts, pricing agreements, and vendor contracts. Oversees any applicable contract grid compliance.

  • Facilitates, coaches and supports a team model. Anticipates and influences change using leadership principles. Builds trust and inspires teamwork. Influences others to use their talents to achieve a common goal. Integrates the function of the imaging departments with each other through task delegation, development of lines of communications, accountability and organization of work schedules.

  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, service-oriented environment for patients/visitors/employees in accordance with hospital standards.

  • Oversees the development of imaging charges and ensures appropriate assignment of CPT codes. Ensures the accuracy of hospital statistical reports related to imaging volume through charge reconciliation process, review of programming assumptions, comparative review of Solucient data, etc. Ensures imaging departments are meeting targets related to late charges and denials and provides input in the development of RVU cost based assumptions. Keeps abreast of regulatory changes related to reimbursement and ensures compliance.

  • Thoroughly investigates and researches new technologies and equipment in collaboration with medical directors and department leaders. Provides ROI analyses for new capital equipment purchases and technology implementation. Develops proformas, feasibility studies, proposals, project plans and performance metrics to assess, implement and monitor performance of new technology/new equipment implementation as well as business opportunities and strategies.

  • Communicates regularly with medical directors, administration and staff regarding imaging department goals and objectives, opportunities for improvement and/or customer issues/complaints. Communicates with members of the health care team concerning patient testing, safety, clinical indications, results or related information.

  • Maintains professional growth and development through professional affiliations, seminars, and workshops to keep abreast of latest trends in field of health care and imaging modalities. Actively participates on the PH &S Radiology Resource Group.

  • Establishes and maintains department policies and procedures, Improving Organization Performance program, and patient/customer safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Master's Degree (preferred)

  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, State of California (preferred)

  • 7 years of imaging leadership experience

  • Proven management skills in a full service Imaging Department

  • Ability to clearly communicate with all levels in the organization

  • Demonstrated team building skills

  • Expertise in Imaging Technology in healthcare

  • Full knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring, federal and state accreditation requirements.
