Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will prepare journal entries, assist with monthly and year-end closings, fixed asset accounting and audits, and general ledger reconciliation as needed. They are responsible to analyze financial data in order to prepare financial reports and the position requires the ability to manage several tasks concurrently; while setting precedence on time management, accuracy and customer service. The position assists in training and guidance of other personnel within the department and serves as a back up to their roles.
Expected Hours of Work
This position is full time and considered an exempt employee. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm with the occasional need for work on Saturdays (during month and year end financial closings) and additional overtime, as needed.
Essential Functions
Reconcile fixed assets including, maintaining depreciation, additions, transfers, and disposals.
Responsible for analysis and reconciliation of point-of-sale systems data for multiple locations
Daily preparation of cash receipt journals and data entry of journals to the general ledger
Semi-annual safe and cash handling audits
Audit of cashiers’ accuracies and discrepancies
Maintain intercompany transactions, billings, reconciliation
Conduct month end close and prepare journal entries with minimal supervision.
Assemble journal entries and thorough account reconciliations that include, but are not limited to, prepaid expenses, and payroll
In-depth knowledge of reconciling month end balance sheet accounts
Periodic maintenance and reconciliation of journal entries
Implement, maintain and adherence to accounting procedures and compliance
Take part in various department and companywide initiatives
Prepare documentation of accounting process and controls
Support the month end, quarter end, yearend closing processes by preparing monthly financial close workbooks
Special projects as requested by management
Responsible for additional areas of accounting as assigned
Education and Training
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Desired Qualifications
3+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
Sage 300 experience preferred
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
Great attention to detail
Spreadsheet and database capabilities and working knowledge
Comprehensive knowledge of account reconciliation
Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
Mature organizational, written, and verbal communications
Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment is a plus
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopies, phones, filing cabinets, fax machines etc.
Physical and Mental Demands
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 lbs
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
