Evergreen Health Medical Director of Primary & Specialty Care in Buffalo, New York

The Medical Director of Primary & Specialty Care is responsible for departmental clinical leadership and oversight of providers to ensure high quality of patient care, fiscal viability, employee, and patient satisfaction. This role serves as a liaison between providers and administration leadership and will collaborate to optimize communication, efficiency and effectiveness of services provided within Primary & Specialty Care. The Medical Director of Primary and Specialty Care will meet, assess and diagnose patients in our clinic and provide them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards for caregiving. The Medical Director of Primary & Specialty Care works closely with the Medical Director of Infectious Disease and Medical Director of Population Health to ensure effective systems are in place for all aspects of clinical operations.

As part of the essential functions of this role, the Medical Director of Primary & Specialty Care:

  • Provides direct oversight of employed and contracted providers within the department.

  • Maintains provider staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage for timely patient care.

  • Reviews and approves all procedures and services providers wish to perform.

  • Provides mentoring for professional growth and development of providers.

  • Ensures all providers maintain complete, accurate and timely patient medical records.

  • Conducts chart reviews to ensure standards of care are met.

  • Reviews and approves all clinical policies and procedures.

  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examinations and diagnostic tests.

  • In accordance with medical protocols, evaluates test findings, makes initial medical diagnosis and develops and implements a therapeutic plan consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.

  • Records findings of physical and developmental assessments with timeliness and accurateness.

  • Identifies abnormalities that require further study and proceeds with all aspects of follow-up care.

  • Initiates first line medical care plan within defined protocols and discontinues therapeutic regimens as per protocol.

  • Develops appropriate primary care health regimens for patients utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach.

  • Ensures compliance with all Evergreen Health policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with administrative leadership to assess overall management of Primary & Specialty Care, strategic planning, fiscal stability, population health and patient experience activities.

  • They collaborate and support the team members to ensure a patient-focused approach to care.

  • Enters data timely and accurately to promote patient care delivery and participates in ongoing QI/QA activities and training to improve patient experience and increase data quality where needed. Maintains and protects sensitive information in enterprise systems and uses/shares data in compliance with Information Governance and Security Policies.

    Qualified Candidate will be a licensed physician registered with the New York State Education Department and Board certified in a medical specialty. The qualified candidate will have five (5) years of experience in an active medical practice with proven administrative/supervisory responsibilities. Possession of Basic Life (BLS) Certification required. Candidate must have familiarity with computers, EMR software (Medent), and MS Office software (Outlook, Word). Candidate must possess valid NYS driver license and insured, dependable car to use for traveling between office sites. The candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to meet deadlines. The candidate will be a problem solver and will have the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate appropriately. They will demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the issues that underserved populations, people living with HIV and people who use drugs, including health disparities that affect people of color at a disproportionate rate.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Required License/Certifications: Licensed physician registered with the New York State Education Department; Board certified in a medical specialty.

    Additional required certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Required experience: Five (5) years of experience in an active medical practice with proven administrative/supervisory responsibilities.
