Maintenance Electrician – Buffalo, NY

This is a full-time, hourly position.

Position Summary:

Maintenance electricians are responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, installing, and removing electrical equipment, including but not limited to; solenoids, motor starters, facility lighting, control system instrumentation, position/motion/plug sensor devices, limit switches, PLC equipment, power supplies, conduit installation, wiring connections, and motors. This position will work throughout various departments, which include but not limited to the grain elevator, flour mill, warehouses, laboratory and offices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Troubleshoot electrical problems while maintaining safety as the priority.

  • Perform routine electrical repair projects and preventative maintenance on production equipment such as breaker boxes, motor leads and lighting fixtures.

  • Assist in the installation and wiring of new/modified electrical equipment.

  • Maintain accurate and thorough inventory of electrical parts and related manuals.

  • Monitors plant motors and starters, checking for hot spots and completing required reports.

  • Select, install and pull wiring to required equipment locations; making connections, testing circuitry and performing related installation processes of low and medium voltage to 4160V.

  • Understands their role in food safety and quality systems, actively participates in food safety efforts and ensures all activities conform to good manufacturing practices.

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, and/or repair electrical and electronic equipment, including but not limited to: power distribution, motor control, programmable control systems, servos, and motor sequence control.

  • Capable of working with and troubleshooting machines controlled by relay logic and PLC’s.

  • Ensures operation of electrical and mechanical equipment by troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and upgrading all electrical systems within the plant to include palletizing equipment, pneumatics and hydraulics, conveying equipment, blowers, mill equipment, product formers/packers, weighing systems, scales, Inkjet printers, photo eyes, limit switches, proximity switches, metal detectors, etc.

Job Qualifications:

  • Committed to ADM’s goal of achieving a zero injury culture; understand and follow company safety and food safety procedures

  • Journeyman’s license (Preferred)

  • 2-4 years instrumentation experience and/or equivalent degree or schooling (industrial or commercial setting); able to run conduit, troubleshoot, read blue prints

  • Excellent communication & organizational skills; able to collaborate with colleagues and management teams to complete assignments in a timely manner

  • Ability to work independently and with a team.

  • Willing to improve technical skills through on-the-job and/or outside training

  • Willing to work overtime, rotating shifts, weekends, call-ins, and holidays.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with our CMMS (Maximo) used for tracking preventative and predictive maintenance.

  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Detailed understanding of Food Manufacturing Plant Operation and Maintenance.

  • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees

  • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing

  • Outside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity; may be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.

  • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below; may be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow, and wind.

  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

  • Lifting or carrying of weights over fifty (50) pounds is rare; employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than fifty (50) pounds.

  • Ability to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day.

  • Ability to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling, or squatting frequently during the course of a work day; may require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.

  • Ability to operate equipment or diagnose/detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding, or other work at heights.

  • Full range of physical motion is required in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights.
