Position Summary:

The University at Buffalo’s Office of Residential Maintenance Services (https://www.buffalo.edu/campusliving/for-current-students/maintenance.html) is seeking a candidate to fill the Maintenance Assistant Electricianposition. In this role, Maintenance Assistant Electricians perform semiskilled work in the repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems and equipment, following applicable electric code regulations.

You will work with a team of dynamic and diverse individuals and ensure that structures and equipment are installed correctly, properly maintained and repaired as needed across UB’s North and South campuses.

In a typical year, Campus Living houses up to 7,500 students at UB. Our skilled trades and custodial staff care for the buildings our students live in. Our priority is the health and safety of our students. Without dedicated cleaners and maintenance staff, the university would not be able to have a residential program.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assists a Trades Specialist (Electrician) in installing and repairing electrical wiring

  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, and other simple elements of electrical systems

  • Repairs and maintains appliances and fans by adjusting, cleaning, lubricating and replacing worn or defective parts.

  • Position and fasten objects such as wiring, conduits, and motors.

  • Effectively reads blueprints, electrical schematics

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of full-time experience in electrical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson

OR

  • Completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership ( NYS CSEA -P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program

OR

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA -P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This position requires traveling within the north and south campuses.

  • A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS is preferred; or otherwise must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
