Visually Impaired Advancement Employment Specialist Associate in Buffalo, New York

Job Description:VIA Visually Impaired Advancement is seeking a full time Employment Specialist Associate to work 37.5 hours per week. Under the direction of the Manager of Workforce Development, this position is primarily responsible for providing a broad range of functions inclusive of direct client services and department operational support. Essential Functions:Worksite Job Coaching Determine the essential responsibilities and key critical success factors of the job. Teach, coach, and provide training for clients to be successful at the worksite. Identify and leverage client’s strengths; celebrate successes. Identify and make the client aware of any potential barriers to success. Establish short-term goals for improvement, monitor progress and provide regular feedback. Provide guidance in learning to integrate with other employees and the work environment. Assist in developing and enhancing communication with other employees and supervisor(s). Assist in the development of necessary soft skills to be successful in the workplace. Communicate regularly with VIA staff and seek guidance whenever uncertain. Complete timely, detailed, and objective documentation of client performance in accordance with department guidelines.Department Operational Support Initiate regular contact with clients and host employers to obtain status updates and ensure deliverables are on track. Assist with planning, coordination, and chaperoning of programs for students. Create laminated certificates for clients and host employers. Assist with searching and sourcing job opportunity leads Assist with entering and tracking job coach hours, serve as a liaison for reconciliation with HR and Finance Departments. Assist with other data entry as requested.Other responsibilities within the agency as requested. Competencies: Effective communication and coaching skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and differing abilities. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Ability to think independently, problem solve and execute assigned tasks.Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent required Two years of coursework or equivalent experience in one or more of the following fields preferred: Education, Human Services and/or Social Work Experience working with people who are blind/visually impaired preferred but not required Able to navigate to community-based work sites in a time-efficient manner.

Minimum Salary: 16 Maximum Salary: 18 Salary Unit: Hourly
