The Development Technician reports directly to a Development Engineer and safely and proficiently carries out lab- and manufacturing-scale assignments towards commercialization of new products and technologies. Important aspects of the role include: participating in safety events, ability to follow Work Instructions and Procedures, and developing proficiency in formulation and analytical methods. Criteria for success include: a can-do attitude, adaptability, dependability, accuracy, initiative, neatness and safety awareness. Activities are varied and require the Technician to learn and adapt readily. The Technician will exhibit open and honest communication with superiors, peers, and subordinates (if any). The position requires the willingness to establish a good working relationship with peers by cooperation, mutual assistance, and exchange of information.

Major responsibilities of the position include:

  • Set up equipment, perform laboratory procedures, make measurements, and prepare samples per specific assignment with limited supervision .

  • Become proficient in the operation of equipment, analytical instruments, and procedures/techniques.

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date lab books and records.

  • Prepare charts and graphs to summarize data and experiments.

  • Actively participate in housekeeping and safety.

  • Select and order chemicals and lab equipment as required.

  • Proactively communicate with supervisors and others both one-on-one and in meetings.

  • Develop cross-functional working relationships across departments.

  • Repair and maintain equipment as needed

  • Pursue the timely completion of set targets.

  • Carry out special assignments, such as working with external facilities or coordinating with outside laboratories

  • Recommend innovative and creative solutions for equipment, process, and product development.

  • Schedule and/or organize own work as required.

  • Suggest process and/or equipment modifications.

  • Some travel (generally minimal) may be required periodically.


  • Associates degree or higher, preferably in chemistry, materials science, engineering or related

  • Laboratory/analytical equipment experience preferred

  • Basic math, language and writing skills.

  • Good communication and analytical capabilities.

  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.

  • Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)
