WORK OBJECTIVE: Works under the direction of the Airfield Superintendent, the Electrical Supervisor, and Airfield Supervision, works at a variety of NFTA facilities performing a variety of electrical installations and maintenance tasks. Performs other maintenance duties as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. • Works with electrical systems and fixtures ranging from 120 volts to 4800 volts. • Inspects and maintains lighting systems on the runways, taxiways, ramps, terminal roadways, and terminal buildings. • Installs, services, and repairs electrical systems, switchgear, distribution panels, all types of motors and controls. • Perform additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must have the knowledge of electrical theory as applied to the electrical trades; practices and techniques of the electrical trade in order to work on, install, construct, and troubleshoot electrical systems in the Aviation branch of the NFTA. Ability to use tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical trade. read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, and generator and motor control diagrams. Ability to troubleshoot and repair cable problems. Able to perform bucket truck and crane work up to sixty-five feet. Ability to learn FAA and NFTA regulations relative to airport operations, able to work overtime and be available for afterhours call-ins, must have good communication skills, be in good physical condition and be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires standing approximately 60% of the time, sitting approximately 10%, and bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching, approximately 30% of time. Must have visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 or better with corrective lenses and distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 in both eyes with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to differentiate between colors.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires capability of performing essential job functions in outdoor environments in all weather conditions, heat, smoke, dust, fumes, and high noise levels, at heights of up to 70 feet, and underground in confined spaces.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of high school or equivalent and successfully completed electrical trade school. Must have a thorough understanding of basic electricity, commercial and industrial electricity along with an understanding of the National Electrical Code. Journeyman or five (5) years experience in electrical maintenance of commercial and or industrial systems. Understanding of single phase, 3 phase, energy distribution systems, and relay logic. Must possess a valid NYS Commercial Learner’s Permit A or B. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License A or B with a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge/ US Customs and Border Protection Seal.
