Risk and Control Senior Analyst (Assistant Vice President)

The Risk and Control team is part of Controllers CAO organisation and is a driving factor in delivering robust and consistent design, monitoring, and governance of the control framework across Markets Controllers and Valuation Control Group. With responsibility for Manger’s Control Assessment (MCA), Issue Management, Audit Engagement, SOX, Transformation, Policy and Communication, the team enables the Controllers organization to execute on Citi Finance Vision and Strategy. Markets Controllers is a specialized area within the Controllers discipline and is principally associated with the Markets Business. The team’s mission is to ensure the completeness, accuracy and integrity of Citi’s books and records. Responsibilities include product line revenue and balance sheet validation, expense analysis and reporting.

VCG is part of Controllers (within Finance) and an independent control function which verify that the valuations produced by the Front-Line Units are reasonable and in accordance applicable with fair value standards.

The mission of the team is to:

  • Serve as trusted control advisors who promote and assist in embedding strong internal controls over financial reporting including disclosures, and is involved in corporate level control programs such as SOX, COSO & MCA;

  • Drive Controllers governance and ensure adherence to corporate wide Citi policies and standards for Finance;

  • Deliver timely, accurate and insightful control analytics to ensure proper attention to remediation efforts and to strengthen the control environment.

Responsibilities:

  • This role will primarily focus on Audit Engagement and Issue Management activities in line with Citi Global standards, policies, and procedures. The person will support Issue Management Lead in managing issues and corrective actions that impact the Controllers scorecard and supporting the in-line businesses with upcoming audits and reviews.

  • Actively participate in designing sustainable remediation plans by challenging in-business Controllers on the issues identified. Drive timely remediation of the issues by monitoring and pre-validating the corrective actions implemented. Timely escalate any gaps identified.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with in-business Controllers as well as the second/third lines of defence and support stakeholders in remediation of regulatory and internal audit issues;

  • Support Internal Audit (IA) reviews to ensure effective audit coordination, driving factual accuracy of findings independently and managing conflicts. Also ensure that appropriate IA CAPs are raised, and the issue ownerships are right placed.

  • Drive improvements in control identification, standardization, design, and monitoring, reducing financial risk across the in-line businesses.

  • Responsible for quality coordination for the issues within MC/VCG by reviewing and challenging new issues;

  • Participate in the conformance testing program based on risk and emerging topics to ensure accurate self-evaluation of the control environment and the development of value-adding remediation plans.

  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Controllers CAO function with a focus on driving change through innovation.

  • Support delivering trainings to the teams with aim to increase awareness on controls and strengthen control environment.

  • Proactive and 'no surprises' approach in communicating and escalating issues; and strength in sustaining independent views;

Ideal background:

  • At least 5 years' experience in the Financial Services industry preferably in a Controls, Risk Management, or Audit function;

  • Bachelor’s/University degree required, Master’s degree preferred;

  • Good command of spoken and written English;

  • Internal Audit knowledge gained as a practitioner or in an associated consulting role;

  • Exposure in product and valuation controller activities will be preferred.

  • Financial products knowledge is an advantage;

  • Good understanding of culture, ethical conduct, governance, risk management and control frameworks in leading international organizations;

  • CPA or ACCA equivalent is an advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Influencing and effective negotiation skills;

  • Ability to analyse a process and recommend ways to improve quality, controls, and efficiency;

  • Demonstrates strong judgment, political astuteness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
