The Tax job family encompasses global roles accountable for the design and implementation of tax strategies, policies and the tax governance framework. It also includes the provision of tax support to Diageo’s business units, delivery of projects to create shareholder value, and proactive management and mitigation of key tax risks.

Within Global tax the Indirect Tax Compliance function performs end-to-end tax compliance activities for various members of the Diageo Group across Europe, North America, Africa, Latin America and APAC. These activities include the preparation of indirect tax returns, including Value Added Goods and Services Taxes (VAT/GSV), withholding tax on VAT, excise and customs duties and the administration of other taxes including environmental levies. The team is also responsible for preparing EC Sales Listings and other statistical reports, for example, those required to declare the movement of goods.

About the role

  • Support indirect tax leaders, business partners, SME-s, Regional and Global Supply Leaders in non-routine questions, global projects, and during tax audits;

  • Support in strategic management of Indirect Tax agenda from VAT or C&Ex perspective;

  • Perform VAT and C&Ex duty trainings to the Indirect tax compliance team;

  • Ensure that the technical knowledge required for preparing the in-scope statutory indirect tax returns is available for their team;

  • Acting as a coach and mentor for their team members both from a technical and people management perspective and supports return preparation process;

  • Apply legislation changes, proactive action on system changes and communication, providing tax support in global projects;

  • Be up-to-date market specific regulatory requirements and legislative changes and ensuring compliant tax management;

  • Pro-actively support internal projects to facilitate the ongoing transformation and improvement of Diageo’s Global Tax function

What you'll bring

  • Ideally minimum 5 years’ relevant tax experience

  • Experience at an operational level with VAT and/or Customs&Excise, controls and risk management;

  • Experience with transitions and project management;

  • Experience in working with VAT/C&Ex Tool and/or VAT/C&Ex in SAP;

  • Experience in working with markets that have highly complex legislation

  • Strong process and tax technical understanding at an operational level in VAT/C&Ex and other indirect taxes;

  • Excellent communication skills able to build positive relationships with operational staff and partners;

  • Flexibility for adopting to change with positive attitude;

  • Ability to align multiple partners optimally, business partnering and tact;

  • Strong risk leadership skills, ability to follow-up/flag potential issues

  • English language skills.
