What you need to know
The primary duty station for this position will be TTI RELLIS campus in Bryan, TX. Due to the nature of this position, there is not a hybrid remote option available.
The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.
Job Summary
The Research Specialist I is responsible for providing technical, analytical and administrative assistance for projects relating to instrumentation equipment used in vehicle crash testing and experimental transportation research. Responsibilities will involve independently assembling, calibrating and operating electronic measurement equipment and systems to meet the strict requirements of ISO 17025 standards. Develop methods to install data systems in test vehicles and to implement those methods. use specialized software to program data acquisition systems and to analyze and document the test results to be included in the test reports to the sponsors. Additional duties will include developing project ideas and turning those ideas into innovative data collection methodologies along with conducting field installations and repair. Continued employment is dependent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
Essential Duties
Install, test, operate, and remove instrumentation systems, in vehicles, used for full-scale crash tests. This includes work in a non-air conditioned shop, as well as on the outdoor test track. The instrumentation systems could weigh up to 50 pounds. Troubleshoot and repair electronic circuits. Locate and replace defective components and make necessary adjustments and calibrations. (35%)
Setup experiments requiring digital data acquisition systems, analog amplifiers, filters and mechanical attachments. (30%)
Maintain and repair digital data computer and associated peripheral equipment. (15%)
Setup and operate photographic equipment for a variety of vehicle and bogie crash tests. (10%)
Setup and operate telemetry ground station before, during, and after all full-scale, bogie, and pendulum tests. (5%)
Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Trade school with emphasis in electronics
