Job Summary

The Identity and Culture team (I&C) is seeking a causal, part-time disability culture coordinator ( DCC ) to be the primary person leading programming and education around disability, ability, and ableism in our campus community. Working under the director of identity & culture and the director of student accessibility, the disability culture coordinator will provide guidance and best practices for how to make Bowdoin a more inclusive space for all students, and specifically how to be more inclusive for disabled students. The DCC will serve as the advisor to the Disabled Students Association ( DSA ). In that capacity, they will be the primary staff person who will work closely with the DSA and provide them support and guidance throughout the academic year. They will also lead efforts to educate our campus community on topics related to disability culture, ableism, and universal design.

Education/Skills Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • A creative approach to problem solving

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities and sensitivity to issues of diversity

  • Lived experience with disability advocacy and accessibility issues

    Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and willingness and ability to learn multiple or new computer applications

    Standard Work Days and Hours

This is a part-time position budgeted for 4 hours per week during the academic year which consists of 15 weeks per semester. The DCC , the director of identity and culture, and the director of student accessibility will work together to create a schedule that includes office hours, working with campus partners, working with students, and programming time.

The pay rate for this position is $25.00 per hour.
