Job Assignment: EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST Job Number: 30-0113 Department:Human Resources Pay: $2,976 per month / $17.17 per hour Immediate Supervisor: Director of Human Resources

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position performs a variety of activities in support of the Human Resource department related to employment, hiring, and employee appreciation initiatives. Assists in employee file maintenance as well as other clerical duties. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC WORK PERFORMED:

  • Perform all necessary clerical duties related to Human Resources Department.
  • Assist Director of Human Resources in maintenance and creation of job descriptions.
  • Type forms, statements, letters, or memos prepared for signatures by the Director of Human Resources.
  • Will assist in computer maintenance of employee electronic files for payroll as well as record keeping.
  • Attend training as required to gain additional knowledge.
  • Will use courtesy and skillful techniques in dealing with employees and the public.
  • Answer phone calls, search files, assemble information, compile statistics and maintain records.
  • Create reports and letters in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other programs.
  • Conducts applicant processing, new hire onboarding and offboarding through the HRIS software.
  • Assist as back up Admin Assistant when staff is short-handed.
  • Will assist in updating the H.R. page on the City website including all job postings.
  • Will help plan events such as Open Enrollment, Annual Awards Banquets, Job Fairs, ISERVE Conference, and other events.
  • Will coordinate and assist in Employee Orientation quarterly or as needed.
  • Will lead employee appreciation initiatives such as the annual City Hall Christmas party, birthday lunches as well as other City-wide appreciation efforts including Summer fun passes, turkey coupons, etc.
  • Must follow and support City policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move about an office or building. Employee occasionally lifts materials weighing 20-30 pounds or climb in order to reach cabinets.
  • Ability to bend and squat in order to file or retrieve information.
  • May be exposed to electrical, mechanical, or chemical hazards when operating / maintaining office equipment.
  • Ability to see and handle small objects. Indoors, pleasant; light physical activity.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

  • Continuous significant contact with city employees of all departments and the general public daily.
  • State, Federal and local enforcement agency officials, consulting engineers, materials suppliers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • Undergraduate or business school training in secretarial administration is a plus; one or more years training and experience in receptionist/secretarial field.
  • Related work experience is preferred.
