Electronic Technician

Position Description

Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

Apply the technical skills necessary to maintain, repair and/or restore all major components of both automated and non-automated machinery throughout the facility. The position works independently to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and/or modify the Plant’s Mechanical, Electrical and Computer driven controls systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES (What functions and responsibilities does this position perform to achieve the above summary?)

  1. Performs general diagnostics, Repairs and preventative maintenance on automated equipment including robotics, Siemens PLC’s, VFD, HMI, electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics systems.

  2. Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and principles, wiring specifications.

  3. Modify, maintain, and install PLC programs, troubleshoot and maintain updated documentation and wiring changes.

  4. Correctly identify voltage and current nomenclature on equipment. Safely troubleshoot and repair systems using voltages from 12V,24V, 120V, 277V-, and 480V AC/DC circuits.

  5. Proficient with reading, interpreting, and executing equipment specifications using Manuals, basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and other instructions to accurately assemble and troubleshoot equipment.

  6. Install and maintain wiring, control, and power systems in compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC). Inspect and understand electrical distribution components (switchgear, panelboards, transformers, other electrical components)

  7. Support Maintenance team including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.

  8. Supports equipment installation projects on new and existing production lines.

  9. Designs and constructs adaptations of component parts or standard parts, as required.

  10. Fabricates parts as required using machine and hand tools common to the trade.

  11. Informs supervisor and line mechanics of potentially dangerous electrical equipment observed, or faulty instrumentation and corrective actions taken.

  12. Maintains company required performance and maintenance records for instrumentation and electronic equipment using a CMMS system.

  13. The incumbent must follow and adhere to proper Arch Flash procedure and Personal Protective Equipment.

  14. May sub for shift electricians as directed.

  15. Provide coaching and technical direction to maintenance technicians and helpers as required.

  16. Comply with ISO Quality Policies as it pertains to the company and job.

  17. Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for electronic and electrical equipment.

  18. Responsible for maintaining the workstation, per 5S guidelines, which includes maintaining a clean and organized work area.

  19. Place waste in appropriate designated, labeled containers and makes sure lids are properly closed after disposal of waste. Examples of waste are: Contaminated rags, empty aerosol cans, defective lime, etc.

  20. Report abnormal conditions, such as overflowing barrels and missing identification labels to supervisor in charge.

  21. Perform SMAT audits when required thought out the year.

  22. Perform “One Minute to Think” before starting any assigned job task.

  23. Able to read PPE assessment forms and comply with PPE requirements.

  24. Bring to management’s attention any Environmental, Health and Safety alerts throughout the year by submitting a safety alert form.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED (List specific education, experience, training/certifications, proficiencies needed. Must support the essential duties and serve as primary criteria for selecting/rejecting candidates)

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. To perform this job successfully, an individual must have experience as an Electronic Technician and must have extensive technical knowledge of electronics as determined through the job selection interview. Individual must have at least five years’ experience with electronic, electromechanical Hydraulic and pneumatic industrial instrumentation.

  3. Ability to integrate Siemens PLC-based code into information gathering systems -Working Knowledge of Ethernet/Device Net/DH+/ControlNet/Remote I/O Systems is desirable.

  4. Must have Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedural knowledge.

  5. Successful candidates must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in a timely manner.

  6. Ability to read, write and understand English language instructions and communicate in English on technical situations. Must be able to communicate with all levels within the organization. Spanish language is a plus, but not required.

  7. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percents, as well as develop and interpret bar graphs.

  8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  9. Must be able to work independently with limited supervision, to coordinate with supervision on all shifts to assure proper communications.

  10. Computer knowledge is required.

  11. Experience with SAP, PM and TPM is desirable.

  12. Employee is required to have a current class C driver's license. Employee is required to have a state license for Electronic Technician (Level C- Industrial Electronics and Service).

WORKING CONDITIONS (Indicate amount of travel, unusual work hours/shifts or environmental conditions.)

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; therefore, protection is required as indicated in the PPE sheet. Other PPE requirements include safety glasses and steel toe shoes.

  1. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift from floor to knuckle and shoulder to overhead. The employee is frequently required to lift from knuckle to shoulder.

  2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear and smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, push, pull and carry; reach with hands and arms, kneel and climb or balance and use arm controls.

  4. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stop or crouch and use foot controls.

  5. The employee needs to be able to use and maintain the usage of respirator and maintain the annual certification for its usage.

  6. The employee is required to wear FR (flame retardant) uniforms provided by Saint-Gobain Abrasives.
