General Motors Weld Engineer in Brownstown Township, Michigan
On - Site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
The welding engineer will be responsible for the execution, validation, and process improvements for battery welding systems in the plant. The work can span through proof of concept through production launches. This work is performed in a team environment where you will have daily interaction with product or process engineers, suppliers, and researchers. The work environment is primarily the plant but may require travel to engineering centers, laboratories, or other plants to learn and support common processes. This is an outstanding opportunity to work on leading edge technology that requires creativity and innovation as we move toward the electrification of vehicles.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
Perform tryout, verification and debug of manufacturing systems, tools and equipment
Provide technical support for existing and future tools and equipment
Become SME for laser welding and cutting operations and suppliers
Develop and document and ensure adherence to control plans and parameters
Participate in equipment selection and buy-off
Responsible for continuous improvement activities/projects to increase throughput and reduce cost
Responsible for project management timing, budget, and deliverables
Organize and coordinate root cause analysist and problem solving related to quality or throughput issues
Support GMS initiatives to achieve BIQ4 or better

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in welding, metallurgical or engineering or 5 years welding experience
Knowledge/experience with welding/joining operations
Statistical problem solving
Ability to support on alternate shifts as required

Laser welding experience
Knowledge of battery manufacturing
