Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President Operations, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Director, Product Lifecycle, to lead all aspects of our Sustaining Engineering program in maintaining and enhancing our existing product lines. In this role, the Director will implement a product lifecycle roadmap and prioritization strategy and build the team to execute it. Product lifecycle projects include design changes, quality improvements, regulatory compliance, risk management and cost optimization of the Distech Controls full range of BMS products. In addition to the product change management process, the product lifecycle team is also responsible for the product data management governance and plays a pivotal role at the release stage of new product introductions.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, have a strong background in mechanical and electronic engineering, and a proven track record in sustaining engineering. This role is crucial for our product vitality strategy realization.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Working with key stakeholders, develop and implement strategic plans and processes for sustaining engineering activities, including the product maintenance portfolio management, change management (ECR/ECO) and release to production.

  • Contribute to the strategic roadmap with R&D and Product Management. Integrate the key maintenance projects output from the strategic roadmap to the sustaining engineering roadmap.

  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of existing products, ensuring they meet quality, reliability and performance standards. Identify and implement design improvements and cost reduction initiatives.

  • Act as primary contact for sustaining engineering matters with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Partner with the R&D Program teams to ensure smooth implementation of new products in production.

  • Partner with Strategic Sourcing, Quality and Manufacturing Operations to identify and execute cost saving and multi-sourcing opportunities.

  • Lead the Product Lifecycle Management software implementation initiative and manage its continuous improvement roadmap with input from key stakeholders.

  • Oversee the PDM systems and processes through the various databases, including the ERP and PLM.

  • Lead and inspire the product lifecycle team, including engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment. Develop and mentor team members to enhance their skills and career growth.

  • Develop and implement the product lifecycle annual operating and capital budgets to meet company and department objectives.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all sustaining engineering activities, including design changes, test results, and project reports. Generate technical reports and presentations for senior management and other stakeholders.

  • Implement Sustaining Engineering performance metrics.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and leverage the Better Smarter Faster operating system to drive productivity improvements in alignment with the strategy.

Skills and Minimum Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sustaining engineering or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of electronics design, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.

  • Excellent leadership skills with experience in driving projects to closure.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-starter with ability to drive change in a cross-functional setting.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other quality improvement methodologies.
