EmblemHealth Registered Nurse (Care Team Supervisor, Specialty) - Downtown in Brooklyn, New York

Summary of Position

* Provide professional nursing care to patients and proactively support efforts to ensure that standards for patient satisfaction,
patient safety, and quality of care are maintained, as established by AdvantageCare Physicians.
* Organize and provide clinical supervision to the specialty patient care team including, but not limited to, delegation of
responsibilities, mentoring, evaluating, educating, scheduling and counseling the care team staff.
* Implement policies for nursing and patient care in the accredited Gastroenterology endoscopy units.
* Implement staff development and support annual competencies and training for clinical endoscopy staff.
* Coordinate nursing services with other patient services.
* Provide peri-operative nursing level care for patients undergoing Gastroenterology procedures.

Principal Accountabilities

* Provide peri-operative nursing care to patients in endoscopy units including pre-operative assessment, post operative
recovery, placement of intravenous catheters, administering prescribed medications and treatments in accordance
with nursing standards and per orders.
* Provide patient education post procedure.
* Accountable for the administration, treatment and training of patient self-administered drugs.
* Perform and document point-of-care testing.
* Review patient charts for missing labs, reports, and/or open orders and review as part of care team huddles.
* Supervise the daily activities of the gastroenterology endoscopy unit including competition of necessary logs, records
and documentation, such as narcotic logs, medication logs and emergency supplies.
* Maintain gastroenterology pathology specimen log and tracking of specimen results with pathology lab vendor.
* In coordination with the Manager, Nursing and Practice Administrator, manage and inventory clinical supplies.
* Document nursing notes in electronic health record within 24 hours.
* Manage in-basket requests and responds to all requests in a timely manner. Serve as a clinical liaison between the call
center and medical office.
* Contact patients with test results and provide recommendations on cases per physician determination and/or
standards of care.
* Assist with open access colonoscopy referral scheduling. Perform chart review of patients pre-procedure.
* Conduct and document in electronic health record post procedure nursing phone calls.
* Ensure nursing practices of the specialty care team as well as own practices are in accordance with nursing standards,
local, state and federal guidelines and organizational policy.
* Provide endoscopy suite related training and orientation to the specialty care team.
* Follow established guidelines, clinical service goals, objectives, and procedures. Collaborate with nursing leadership
in writing endoscopy suite related policies. Arrange appropriate clinical staff in-service training and conduct/ assist in
conducting as needed.
* Provide clinical supervision to the Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Care Team Associate IIs (CTA II) on the
specialty care team.
* Assist with daily/weekly Care Team scheduling. Delegate tasks appropriately according to the scope of licensure and
follow up on delegated tasks to ensure completion.
* Coordinate with anesthesiology services to communicate schedules and availability of anesthesia services for
patients, and triage patients in collaboration with anesthesia and Gastroenterology providers.
* Assist with new hire orientation, staff training, providing feedback for performance evaluations, and providing
information related to employee discipline and termination of staff.
* Prepare equipment and aid physician during treatment, examination, testing of patients and patient procedures.
* Coordinate biomedical equipment repairs with service vendors.
* Coordinate outpatient work-up and or treatment plans when required (i.e. further clinical testing, x-rays, and
facilitate communication between physicians and health care providers).
* Pend tests and procedure orders for physician approval and co-signature.
* Prepare prescriptions or medication refills, for review and signature by provider.
* Assist with medication and procedure authorization, when required.
* Report incidents to risk management.
* Participate in the gastroenterology endoscopy unit's quality improvement program and departmental meetings.
* Participate in preparation and attendance of gastroenterology endoscopy unit accreditation surveys, both onsite and
self-surveys.
* Perform other job-related duties as required including participation in nursing practice work groups and committees

Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications

* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (R)
* Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (P)
* Current unencumbered New York State Registered Nurse license
* BLS (R)
* ACLS (R)

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Work experience as a nurse in a hospital or ambulatory setting (P)
* Work experience in gastroenterology, emergency room, critical care, operating room, surgical specialty or ambulatory
surgical center (P)
* Experience with American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (Quad A) Accreditation or other
accreditation organization (Joint Commission, AAAHC, Urgent care) (P)
* Strong knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care. (R)
* Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient
care. (R)
* Knowledge of medical chart reporting. (R)
* Ability to maintain quality control standards including knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control,
environmental safety, patient confidentiality and common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work
environment. (R)
* Ability to work independently within scope of practice, make appropriate clinical decisions and delegate appropriately. (R)
* Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to provide patient care and interact with colleagues in a team
atmosphere. (R)
* Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR). (P)

Minimum Salary: 31200.00 Maximum Salary: 31200.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
