Foundation Technician, L153 (71104)Location: Brooklyn, NYDescription:Pratt Institute is seeking a Foundation Technician who is a creative problem solver with excellent communication, technical, and organizational skills to support the analog and digital facilities for the Foundation Department. This position supports students and faculty through supervision and instruction of basic woodshop and plaster shop hand tools, equipment and techniques. The successful candidate will possess technical skills and abilities in traditional woodworking and plaster, and the ability to demonstrate safety standards and protocols. The successful candidate will also assist in the day-to-day operation of 15 studio classrooms, material and tool storage spaces, and help to manage digital equipment check out systems. Having the ability to troubleshoot basic computer issues (including teaching stations, printers, and connectivity) and familiarity or experience with digital tools (Adobe, 3D rendering, etc) would be an asset. The role will work collaboratively with other foundation technicians, student workers, the Technical Director of Foundation, faculty, and staff of the Foundation Department. The candidate should possess strong analytical and organizational skills, effective and professional written and verbal communication, and familiarity with G-Suite, email, spreadsheets. If you can demonstrate the ability to operate and oversee the use of analog and digital equipment and spaces, with experience collaborating in an educational or creative environment, we want to hear from you! ----Under the general supervision of management, the shop technician will support the day-to-day operation of the Foundation Department shops. They join a team committed to fostering a safe, innovative, and robust culture of creating, and will provide students with practical technical support that will guide their practice in and beyond their time at Pratt. Position Duties: Oversee the safe operation, set-up, inspection, and maintenance of equipment and tools, performing troubleshooting relating to the repair and installation for shop equipment and technologies. Supervise daily student and faculty work in the shop and its related satellite resources, providing technical guidance and support for faculty teaching in the shop.Oversee inventory, secure price quotes, and order supplies as needed. Hire, train, and supervise student employees in the safe handling and basic operation of shop equipment and tools. Participate in regular team meetings to support overall use of facilities and resources. Where applicable, coordinate the check-in/check-out and reservation process for equipment, labs, and shops. Collaborate with the department head in the development and implementation of training materials, procedures, policies, and services to be used by student employees and student users, as well as staff and faculty working in the shop. Implement a pedagogy for shop safety orientation. Where applicable, conduct 10 shop safety orientations annually. For technical instruction beyond the scope of sta
