Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Clinical Specialist, Nursing Quality. in Brookline, Massachusetts
The Clinical Specialist, Nursing Quality (CS, NQ) is a member of the nursing leadership team. This role reports to the Director, Nursing Quality and Magnet Program, and collaborates with nurses at all levels in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating programs that influence and enhance evidence-based practice, shared decision-making, professional development of nurses, and top performance on nursing quality outcomes. The CS, NQ works collaboratively and possesses expertise as a(n) clinician, learning facilitator, quality improvement specialist, change agent and leader. CS, NQ practice is based on competencies described by the Association for Nursing Professional Development, National Association for Healthcare Quality, American Nurses Credentialing Center, National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Oncology Nursing Society as well as standards set forth by regulatory agencies.
This role will focus primarily on the development, implementation, and evaluation of nurse-driven protocols in ambulatory settings. In addition, the CS will support ongoing regulatory readiness and compliance for Nursing and Patient Care Services.

Clinical Nursing Practice
Models excellence in nursing practice using scientific knowledge and advanced concepts in the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of actual or potential problems in the oncology patient population.
Proactively identifies opportunities and investigates solutions to assure the provision of state-of-the-art nursing care and associated outcomes.
Influences patient outcomes through the translation, implementation, and integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) into daily operational activities.
Collaborates and consults with nurses and others to influence nursing practices and improve care outcomes within a specific unit or service and/or across Nursing and Patient Care Services (NPCS) and the Institute.
A key stake holder and decision maker for the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care, policies, and guidelines.
Education
Provides education to NPCS staff and patients, and families based on advanced practice knowledge of oncology nursing care and the principles of adult learning and quality improvement methodology.
Designs and evaluates quality improvement educational programs and initiatives that are congruent with DFCI’s strategic plan, NPCS priorities, regulatory requirements, and oncology nursing standards.
Designs and implements clinical and professional competency programs and other educational activities in collaboration with nursing staff and leaders.
Participates in local and national professional activities and organizations to promote the educational and professional growth of self and others within DFCI and the community.
Is as a member of the DFCI Provider Unit for ANA-MA continuing nursing education.
Consultation, Mentorship, and Coaching
Works collaboratively with other departments and disciplines on projects, initiatives, and programs to meet the nursing quality goals of DFCI and promotes excellence in care delivery and outcomes.
Is a clinical resource and consultant to all the DFCI nursing community regarding clinical policies, regulatory requirements, quality standards and guidelines of care.
Provides clinical expertise from the nursing quality and patient safety lens in the development and implementation of nursing clinical policy, procedure and standards processes and is a key member of DFCI NPCS and other policy committees.
Mentors and supports the professional growth and development of nurses, other NPCS staff and students in relation to quality improvement and patient safety
Research and Quality
Participates in the development of the DFCI Nursing Quality Plan.
Facilitates and leads quality and process improvement projects and initiatives utilizing the DMAIC model.
Analyzes nurse-sensitive outcomes and contributes to the development of ambulatory nurse sensitive outcomes.
Assesses quality of care and patient outcomes.
Implements evidence-based process improvement initiatives at the department level with NPCS staff.
Identifies clinical practice problems, reviews literature, and provides clinical support to staff and leaders to implement EBP solutions.
Participates in research activities that expand the scientific base of nursing practice knowledge.
Disseminates work related to research, EBP and quality improvement initiatives.
Is a member of Nurse Executive Committee for Quality.

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Master’s degree in nursing.
Minimum of 3-5 years recent experience as a nurse in oncology.
Leadership, education, and quality improvement experience required.
Specialty Certification required such as NPD-BC, CPHQ, OCN within one year of hire.
Active in professional organizations such as ONS, NAHQ, ANPD.
Ability to work as an effective member of an interprofessional team.
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Program or project development experience.
