Daktronics, Inc designs, manufactures, and sells a wide range of display systems to customers in a variety of markets throughout the world. We focus our sales and marketing efforts on geographical regions, markets, and products. The primary categories of markets include Live Events, Commercial, Transportation, Schools and Theatres, and International. Daktronics manufacturing follows a focus factory concept paralleling these five markets.
This position will be involved with quality systems throughout the company and will work closely with factory leadership and will identify improvement activities throughout the corporation, as well as support long term corporate quality projects. This individual will report directly to the Quality Manager.
Supervision, Leadership, and Performance:
Supervise employees, employee performance development, motivation, and discipline.
Supervise factory Quality Engineers and Quality staff in Brookings, SD locations with the possibility for supervision in other locations. This will require visits to the factories.
Supervise students and/or interns and work closely with the student pipeline to promote a continuous growth path within Daktronics.
Assist with hiring staff and coordinate training plans for new employees as well as existing employees.
Contribute to a high-performance workplace by consistently growing competencies of Customer Focus, Problem Solving, Composure, Decision Quality, and Listening, through desired behaviors.
Solicit input/feedback from factory leadership on how the Quality team is performing as it relates to internal Customer Focus.
Work and communicate effectively as a team member; make suggestions for process and product improvements.
Complete projects with quality work in a timely manner, and other duties as assigned or needed to support the efforts of Daktronics.
Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with Daktronics Safety Policy and OSHA standards. Items may include the following: safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, electrostatic discharge wear, and others as determined necessary by Daktronics Environmental Health and Safety Department.
Quality Management Systems:
Support Closed-Loop Quality Management; Materials Non-Conformances (NC), Deviation/Variances, Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA), First Article Inspection (FAI), Incoming Inspection, etc. Including compliance with ISO9001 and EN12966. You may be assigned as the owner for one or more of these systems within the Daktronics QMS.
Quality Assurance Tools and Process Improvement:
Review and analyze existing processes and equipment operations to improve overall product quality, manufacturing capability, process control, and scrap reduction. This will require visits to the factories.
Analyze and present data/information to support product and process improvement activities.
Support New Product Introductions, Product Transfers and Process Transfers. Support activities may include facilitating process risk assessments, facilitating PFMEAs or participating in DFMEA activities.
Provide training to work groups on topics such as: 8D Problem Solving, SPC, FMEA, Quality Control Plan, etc.
Facilitate experiments using advanced quality tools, such as capability analysis, measurement systems analysis, DOE, ANOVA, etc.
Support supplier quality activities such as first article inspections and supplier quality improvement activities.
Support lean activities through active participation for those items that may affect quality.
Where will I work?
Daktronics offers the flexibility to work from home and campus locations, but for this role, there is a need to be within an approximately 1-hour driving distance to a US Daktronics campus. Exact working hours are flexible.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or similar degree or equivalent from a college or technical school.
Strong oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and self-motivation are required.
Ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams and build consensus amongst team members to solve complex technical problems.
Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment to organize workload and prioritize schedule according to company plans.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees, customers, and suppliers.
Available for in-factory activities such as, responding to escalations in a timely manner, project work, and supervision responsibilities.
Preferred:
3-5 years of experience in Quality Engineering in a manufacturing environment, or Supplier Quality.
Experience with ISO 9001: requirements.
Expertise in the use of various quality tools such as 8D problem solving, FMEA, SPC, and various problem-solving tools.
Certified Quality Engineer or equivalent certification.
Working knowledge/experience in Quality, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma implementation.
Supervision experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business communications, governmental regulations, industry standards, and technical procedures, drawings, and specifications.
Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle record will be checked.
Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. Be able to stand or sit for the entire shift.
Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
