Summary: Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled work in the maintenance of municipal cemeteries, recreational facilities, and grounds of municipal buildings.

Essential Functions: The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following duties. Additional essential functions may be identified by the city and listed as such in the incumbent's performance appraisal elements. Various tasks may be assigned under each essential function. Those that are listed under the examples of work are not all-inclusive; they are examples only and may be amended or added to as needed by the city.

Examples of Work:

Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to, the following tasks. These tasks may be amended or other tasks may be assigned as necessary.

·         Participates in the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees, hedges, and shrubs; cuts grass and weeds at the cemeteries;

·         Participates in picking up trash, paper, etc., from neutral grounds, and cemeteries;

·         Participates in weed-eating grass;

·         Participates in the operation of equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and tractors;

·         Participates in opening and closing cemetery lots;

·         Dig trenches, ditches, graves, and backfills and compacts areas dug; clean out ditches, load, and unload materials and equipment;

·         Sprays larvicides, puts out ant poison;

·         Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

If a candidate believes he/she is qualified for the job although he/she does not have the minimum qualifications set forth below, he/she may request special consideration through substitution of related education and experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education and Experience:

Experience with lawn maintenance equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

·         Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance construction, and repair activities;

·         Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment:

·         Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Licensing and Certification:

Must possess a current, valid State driver's license or CDL certification, if driving trucks.
