Overview

The Project Specialist is responsible to plan, organize, and direct activities for the engineering, design, and construction of major capital projects and programs within Gas Operations. Provides technical reviews of specifications, drawings, contracts, addendums, and other construction documents to ensure constructability and compliance with Con Edison standards and specifications, when required. Conducts and directs project planning and status meetings to ensure schedule and financial adherence to projects are being maintained and significant issues are clearly disseminated to relevant participants. Ensures meeting minutes are taken and distributed to the project team to maintain awareness. Provides scheduled updates of the engineering, construction, and budget status of each project. Works with the project team to develop and implement creative solutions to intractable problems.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities for the engineering, design, and construction of major capital projects and programs within Gas Operations.
  • Where applicable, manage assigned capital projects and programs in compliance with the companys Capital Projects Playbook.
  • Conducts and directs project planning and status meetings to ensure schedule and financial adherence to projects are being maintained and meeting minutes are sent to the appropriate audience after each occurrence; significant issues should be noted in these minutes.
  • Provides scheduled updates of the engineering, construction, and budget status of each project.
  • Acts as a liaison with regulatory and public officials during project implementation and address potential community concerns associated with the project.
  • Work with FP&A on the financial oversight of all assigned projects and programs; this role will specifically be responsible for accurate and timely updates to Property Records.
  • Assists the Project Manager with the coordination, preparation, and reporting of significant activities on construction projects and programs.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years' of full-time related work experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 6 years' of full-time related work experience or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years' of full-time related work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree STEM degree preferred.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Experience in utility operations, engineering, &/or construction. Required
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of engineering and design, construction management, purchasing, scheduling, quality assurance, cost control, and Environmental, Health & Safety requirements. Required
  • Detailed knowledge of specifications, drawings, contract documents, prints and diagrams. Required
  • Experience in project engineering &/or project management. Required
  • Must possess superior oral, written and presentation communication skills and be able to effectively interact with customers, support staff, subordinates and various levels of management. Required
  • Financial analysis experience and an understanding of the different impacts to the company of capital, O&M, and retirement expenses. Preferred
  • Experience in the direct supervision of management and Union employees. Preferred
  • Primavera scheduling system experience. Preferred
Skills And Abilities
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills
  • Performs work independently with minimal supervision
  • Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines
Licenses And Certfications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Preferred
Physical Demands
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to read small print and symbols
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to work in various field locations including company Tunnels.
  • Extensive walking and standing during field visits.
  • Must wear all required Personal Protective Equipment during field visit.

Minimum Salary: 105000.00 Maximum Salary: 145000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
