Position Summary :

The Project Manager will oversee development, implementation, and day-to-day management of NYBG’s Nurturing Nature project. The position will ensure that activities are executed on time, within scope, and on budget. The position will lead the development and implementation of the project’s joint strategy, foundational research, and network establishment. The position will work closely with Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and other consortium partners to leverage their networks and expertise in botanical conservation, restoration, and plant resilience. The position will coordinate with partner institutions to ensure alignment with project goals and objectives.

Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Oversee and coordinate activities of the Climate Resilience Advisory Group.

  • Plan and coordinate project-related events to help building the network of project partners. Events include NYBG’s participation in Climate Week NYC, UN Biodiversity Conference of the Parties (COP16) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 30), and workshops at NYBG and in partner countries.

  • Coordinate with NYBG’s Center for Conservation & Restoration Ecology to achieve project goals.

  • Develop a memorandum of understanding to be executed by participating members of the Advisory Group.

  • Research and identify best practices in plant conservation, restoration, and biodiversity and oversee development of an action plan based on this information.

  • Develop and manage communication strategies to share project findings with key stakeholders, including through reports, presentations, and participation in relevant forums such as the UN Biodiversity Conference of the Parties (COP16) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 30).

  • Work with project staff and Advancement to prepare and submit detailed progress reports to the project's sponsors and advisory group.

  • Other related duties.

    Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Project Management, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience, preferably in environmental conservation or climate resilience projects.

  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder projects with an international focus.

  • Experience working with botanical gardens, ecological restoration, or nature-based solutions is highly desirable.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex projects.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize data into actionable insights.

  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.

  • Passion for environmental conservation and climate resilience.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a global team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to project challenges.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment:

    This position will require work in an office environment, with extended periods sitting or standing at a desk, using a computer, and attending meetings virtually and in person with other people.     Baseline Work Schedule:

    35-hour work week; some extended hours based on deliverables may be required. Generally, work hours are Monday - Friday 9 to 5 with occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work as needed. NYBG’s hybrid work policy applies to this exempt position. The primary work location is at the New York Botanical Garden.

    Salary: Commensurate with experience within the following range $ 7 5,000-$ 90 ,000
