Job Title: Lab Technician - Food Residue

Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager

Department: Food Residue

Location: Burnaby. B.C.

Full-Time

Basic Purpose:

Perform sample preparation / extractions of target compounds under specific matrices and methodology.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) when performing sample extraction and clean-up to ensure quality data is provided to the client

  • Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling

  • Ensure priority samples are included in workload in order to meet TAT specifications required by the client

  • Identify and communicate procedural non-conformances to Supervisor

  • Participate, when requested, in method troubleshooting and non-conformance investigations

  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials

  • Accurately prepare all reagents and standards required for the methodology

  • Provide general lab support

  • Provide supervisor/manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays

  • Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy

  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program

  • Participate, when requested in lab and health and safety meetings

  • Participate, when requested in internal and external audits

  • Keep work area clean, neat and organized and contribute to housekeeping program

  • Provide general lab support

  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications

  • All other responsibilities as assigned

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Post-Secondary school education, preferably in sciences, or equivalent experience

  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions

  • Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills

  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills

  • Strong computer skills

  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Adapts to a changing environment

  • Works both independently and as part of a team

  • Learns quickly

  • The job incumbent must be available for shift work, working on weekends and overtime

Working Conditions:

  • High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment. Can involve the repetition of the same process. Requires patience, tenacity and persistence

  • Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work

  • May involve long periods of standing

  • Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs)

  • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment

The salary range for this role is $19.97 - $21.69

Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
