Salary: $22.18-$23.50
Basic Purpose:
Perform routine toxicity analyses as directed by the Supervisor and/or Laboratory Coordinator
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
Adhere to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials
Perform routine toxicity analyses and/or complex and GLP toxicity analyses in strict compliance to the requirements of the Standard Operating Procedures
Responsible to maintain cultures of bioassay organisms such as, rainbow trout, Daphnia magna, Ceriodaphnia dubia, and various algae
Keep accurate records of all work, i.e., calibration and maintenance of instruments, water quality measurements, culture mortality and reproduction and test results
Enter and verify data and complete toxicity test reports
Maintain up-to-date training records and relevant qualifications
Participate in external & internal method audits and maintains a high level of theoretical & practical expertise
Write and update Standard Operating Procedures (Test Methods) and Work Instructions for bioassays
Develop, conduct, and validate toxicity methods for projects involving environmental and industrial projects
Other duties as assigned
Skills and Knowledge:
A University Degree or a College Diploma in Sciences, preferably biology, ecotoxicology or related field with special emphasis in the discipline of toxicity
Two (2) years related ecotoxicology or biology laboratory experience is an asset
Ability to keep accurate records in order to comply within GLP standards
Self-directed and proven ability to organize, execute plans and objectives
Working Conditions:
High level of work production in fast paced lab environment
The job requires flexible working hours, weekends, overtime and shift work
May involve long periods of standing
Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate PPE
