School Crossing Guard (Part-time)
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- This is a part-time position under the supervision of a Police Sergeant.
- Crossing Guards are assigned to designated school crossings during hours in which children are required to cross the street.
- Crossing guards are responsible for assembling children and pedestrians at curbs and interrupting and holding traffic to allow them to cross safely.
- Observes vehicles operating in an unsafe manner, records license numbers and reports them to the Police Department.
- Reports students and adults whose actions appear improper or suspicious to proper officials. The City provides training and uniforms.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED required. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions in exposure to traffic; Visual acuity to read printed materials and license plates Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and mobility to escort pedestrians across the street. Knowledge of basic safety rules and traffic laws. Ability to communicate effectively with the public, school personnel and police
