L3Harris MAPPS (Bristol, Burgess Hill and Barrow-in-Furness) provides an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for the Royal Navy sub-surface and surface fleets, notably current Astute submarine and Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers, in-build Type 26 and Type 31 frigates. This software provides integrated monitoring and control of ship propulsion, electrical functions, auxiliaries and damage control machinery and systems.

    What the role will involve

    The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

    The Software Build and Configuration Manager is a member of the software team and compliments the Technical Managers within the projects for technical content. This Role is internally focused, combining engineering judgement and leadership with the ability to co-ordinate, plan, control and deliver a project.

  • Manages configuration management and other legacy tools

  • Ownership and maintenance of processes, procedures and low-level documentation associated with the Configuration Management and related documents.

  • Assist in providing direction to the company on Change and Configuration Management and driving agreed changes through to completion.

  • Assist in providing direction to the company relating to Engineering toolsets, managing obsolescence, patching, administration and strategy for future enhancements and direction for both COTS and internally developed tools.

  • Ensuring that the team is following the agreed project delivery lifecycle, and any problems are identified, understood and resolved (use of Six Sigma Green Belt techniques beneficial).

  • Assist with developing an achievable Schedule which is agreed with all parties and approved for the team to work against.

  • Assists in the collection and reporting of metrics. KPI’s/ TKR’s.

  • Undertake configuration audit activities (i.e. FCA/PCA).

  • Actively contribute to improvements using the company’s e3 methodology, encouraging and facilitating change to realise efficiencies (Lean, Green Belt, etc.)

    What you’ll bring

    The role of Software Build and Configuration Manager requires the following experience and skills:

  • The Candidate will be expected to have the following knowledge skills and experience Jira, GIT, Jenkins or similar CI tools.

  • Understanding and experience of Engineering lifecycles.

  • Experience and knowledge of Systems Engineering disciplines such as Verification and Validation methods, the importance of contractual compliance and system or systems integration.

  • Technical understanding of the product under development

  • Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline preferably Software based
