At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.
We're looking for qualified fitters to operate as multi-skilled, flexible workers to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency within the department.
Successful applicants will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:
• Precussion riveting • Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools • Setting structures in build jigs • Deburring of structures • Fettling using approved setting tools • Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium • Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU) • Part Marking + Identifying
How You'll Contribute
Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
What You'll Bring
To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential:
Must have a recognised indentured apprenticeship
Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
Ability to work to standard operating procedures
Desirable:
Previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft production environment
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives

Starting salary of £33,946 rising to £35,336 once fully certified (after around 3 months) + shift allowance where applicable (up to 33%)
