Finance Analyst – Defence Sector Contract Accountant (Bristol or London)

Working within a team, this role plays a significant and central part of ensuring the business success of our Drones / Counter-Drones business, MOD Other and Defence Service

Management (DSM) platform under the CPS division, delivering financial reporting and business partnering to shape commercial decision making that enhances the sustainable revenue growth across a range of products and services, in both medium and long term.

You will provide robust financial management of complex customer contracts. Ensuring recognition of revenue and profit in line with company policy and appropriate accounting standards.

You will be work independently, assisting and working with the contract & business managers to ensure financial integrity of the contract. Also you will be supporting on new business/ change control pricing and commercials.

You'll have the following responsibilities

  • Ownership of the Drones / Counter-Drones business, MOD Other and DSM platform with responsibility for; month end procedures reporting for P&L and balance sheet, driving cost transformation initiatives to maximise bottom line, supporting business managers on pricing/ change controls and driving governance improvement opportunities specific to Drones / Counter-Drones and DSM

  • Focus on the following key areas: Planning, Budgeting, Cost Transformation, Process Improvements, Reporting, Financial Controls and Risk Management

  • Responsible for maintaining accounts and preparing financial statements in accordance with accounting standards. To maintain financial integrity at all times and being able to support balances and identify risks and opportunities

  • Lead, support and provide analysis to assist projects linked to the delivery of Medium Term Plan 25 (MTP25), including managing the governance for Capex investment and approval

  • Ensure SOX compliance and strong governance

You'll have the following skills & experience

  • Either Professional Accountancy Qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA etc)

  • Excellent analytical skills and strong commercial awareness

  • Robust spreadsheet skills (Excel)

  • Ability to work without supervision, taking ownership for and delivers results

  • Strong stakeholder management; the ability to manage a range of stakeholders both internally and externally up to and including finance director level, and the resilience to challenge them

  • Ability to identify and evaluate commercial and financial risk, and to take steps to mitigate risks and/ or to drive value add

  • Demonstrate creative thinking and innovation with an ability to convey the complex in a simple and meaningful manner

  • Constantly challenging the status quo; continually seeks out best practice with regards to financial reporting policy and practice, ensuring consistent accounting policy and treatment

  • Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and responsibility Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass UK Government Security Clearance
