As a Senior Staff Engineer in the Modern Applications & Management Business Group you will enable a team of 80+ engineers, product and design to develop and execute best practices in designing out our systems, frameworks and products. What you’ll be doing
You will be the engineering, architecture-focused leader on the Balanced Leadership Team (Product Management, Engineering Management, Technical Leadership) for the Developer and App Platform Domain. This Domain is focused on developer focused products and frameworks. Your role will encompass the oversight of engineering and architecture across DevSecOps with DAP
This will involve responsibility and accountability for:
Leading the Pillar with Technical Acumen, Architecture and Best Practices
Providing a Framework and Vision for teams to coalesce around to build and distribute context
Ultimately responsible for ensuring there is a sense of shared context on the architecture across the Pillar
Distilling the vast technology possibilities down to concrete priorities
Being a force multiplier - Building a bench of engineers through mentorship and example
Working at a Pillar Level with leadership, product leads, technical leads, designers, and people managers in figuring out how to prepare for future work and promote context on current and future design.
Bringing clarity where there is uncertainty, managing risk and continuously delivering value.
Advocates for and helps create consistent/repeatable process and makes the appropriate tradeoffs between understanding requirements, architecture/design and ensuring quality implementation to deliver against the business goal
Scope of the role
You will report into the Sr Director of Engineering of DevSecOps within the Developer App Platform MAPBU Organization.
You will focus on defining the technical vision of DevSecOps with Tanzu Application Platform (TAP) and aligning DevSecOps and TAP towards the larger Tanzu goal
You will foster the growth of the existing technical leads across the DevSecOps and the teams therein
You will engage regularly with cross pillar technical leads in developing R&D standards in context sharing, process and enablement of our engineering efforts.
Desired Skills & Experience:
10+ years Engineering experience, especially with large scale, distributed technical solutions
Exposure navigating large enterprise organizations with an understanding of IT partnerships
Demonstrable experience of discussing large scale systems, emerging technologies and innovation.
Able to breakdown complex problems into simple solutions
Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to mentor others
Ability to work collaboratively with others and navigate complex decision making
Demonstration of applying systems thinking to solve organizational problems.
Ability to collaborate well with engineers, designers, and other partners
Experience with Agile development methodology (such as Extreme Programming) and/or experience with development methodologies suitable for large, community-driven OSS projects.
Comfortable with ambiguity. We work in an iterative and incremental way, balancing many different inputs and constantly making trade-offs.
