Summary:

The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist is focused on oral chemotherapy management of patients. Pharmacists in this role work with other members of the oral chemotherapy team, in collaboration with Northern Light’s specialty pharmacy. Work is done to deliver comprehensive care for patients on oral oncolytics, providing a wide variety of services to patients, including education, aiding with chemotherapy order writing/reviewing, monitoring adverse events, evaluating drug—drug and drug–disease interactions, providing supportive care, and aiding in obtaining financial coverage of these medications. Day to day activities include performing adherence and toxicity management for patients, education for patients newly started on therapy, review of patient medication profiles, review and verification of physician medication orders to ensure safe, effective and appropriate medications for our patients. Other tasks include helping to develop Cerner treatment protocols with an interdisciplinary team, maintaining up to date clinical knowledge, ensuring practice and department follow accreditation guidance for specialty pharmacies, and building and maintaining relationships to ensure access to specialty medications.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor patients for adherence and toxicity management and navigate patients through their treatment.

  • Serve as a drug information resource for providers, nurses, and patients.

  • Provide education to providers, nurses, patients, and students.

  • Assist with update and development of Cerner Oncology Regimens.

  • Ensure compliance with specialty pharmacy accreditation and develop/maintain collaborative practice agreements/protocols.

  • Other Duties as assigned.

Other Information:

  • Preferred, but not required, board certification in Oncology (BCOP) or three years of work experience in oncology.
