Summary:

The Cancer Registrar II is an integral member of the team - the quality of data collection is assured by the work completed in this role. Participates in Case Finding activity. Abstracts all Northern Light Health cancer patients in accordance with the ACOS/COC guidelines and the Maine State Department of Human Resources Division of Cancer Registry (MCR) regulations. Completes Case Follow Up function. Supports Cancer Conference (Tumor Board) function. Responds to data requests received by Cancer Registry. Supports Cancer Leadership Committee quality & Community Outreach activities. Supports outreach registry activity - completed cases originating in other facilities as assigned by the Lead Cancer Registrar/Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Seeks out ways to reduce operating costs or increase efficiency within role/department.

  • Acts in a cost conscious manner with regard to use of supplies.

  • Makes effective use of time at work.

  • Completes work in a manner that minimizes need for overtime; overtime when needed is approved.

  • Routinely meets activity based productivity standard -completes work to comply with timely case finding activity - 90% of case documentation is reviewed within 2 weeks of receipt from Cancer Registry Assistant; alerts Lead Cancer Registrar/Supervisor of anticipated difficulty in meeting standard.

  • Routinely meets activity based productivity standard - 100% of assigned cases are completed to comply with Maine State Cancer Registry six month reporting requirement; alerts Lead Cancer Registrar/Supervisor of anticipated difficulty in meeting standard.

  • Routinely meets activity based productivity standard - completes work to comply with timely annual follow up activity - 90% of assigned follow up activity is completed within 1 week of assignment; alerts Lead Cancer Registrar/Supervisor of anticipated difficulty in meeting standard.

  • Routinely meets activity based productivity standard - completes work to comply with Case Conference (i.e. Tumor Board, site specific case review) activity - 95% of assigned activity is completed to assure successful session; alerts Lead Cancer Registrar/Supervisor of anticipated difficulty in meeting standard.

  • Submits/updates activity logs when working on behalf of alternate facility site to permit timely billing.

  • Maintains equipment in working order (includes home based equipment); reports need for equipment repair; identifies need for additional equipment/technology to enhance productivity.

Other Information:

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: 2- or 4-year degree program in biological/life science and/or health information. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Five years office experience in a health care setting. Prior experience working with Microsoft Office Professional and database management skills. CREDENTIAL REQUIRED: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR).

OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED: Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, data management and record keeping which includes a proficiency in basic ICD coding, Maine State Registry and ACOS/COC coding procedures, proven skills in abstracting, follow-up and quality control measures with regards to data reporting. Basic understanding of ACOS/COC standards for maintaining cancer program approval status required. Ability to plan, organize & prioritize multiple responsibilities. Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
