Introduction

The Risk Manager GME (Graduate Medical Education) is an experienced operator that will support HCA’s rapidly growing GME department. The successful candidate will be a leader that can help establish a new enterprise-wide risk management structure for HCA GME.

The successful candidate will lead a team that sets enterprise strategies, realizing successful execution and implementation of key risk procedures, risk IT systems and templates in order to minimize and prevents risk events. This shall include risk identification, development of risk mitigation plans, leading cross-functional risk teams, conducting risk audits and analyses, define, manage, and report on risk KPIs, maintain the GME risk system and integrations, compile standard risk reports and respond to inquiries concerning GME risk instances. Additionally, the successful candidate and the enterprise risk team is responsible for working cross-functionally with HCA Legal, hospital leadership and PSG leadership, and compliance to manage risk occurrences. As part of the GME Finance team, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of key initiatives and projects in the area of GME risk management.

Job Summary and Qualifications

  • Establish a GME risk management function leading a team of at least two risk analyst.

  • Set the GME risk strategy, conceptually design, develop, implement and continually improve an enterprise integrated risk management system covering financial and non-financial risks.

  • Provide strategic, operational and tactical direction to stakeholders regarding risk occurrences including standard operating procedures, mitigation strategies, and recommendations to management.

  • Identify risk occurrences, develop specific mitigation teams and lead such team to ensure tactical management of identified risks.

  • Objective to strategically set-up, develop and lead an enterprise risk management key-user and after roll-out-support structure

  • Conducting, planning and executing training activities on processes, IT systems and methods regarding risk management.

  • Report out regarding risk instances to senior management.

  • Functional Knowledge The GME Enterprise Risk Manager is a seasoned operator with a strong healthcare background that has a comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations. In particular, the person should bring the following knowledge:

  • Strong analytical and project management skills with ability to execute operationally

  • An in depth understanding of legal/risk concepts to act as a trusted liaison between the GME department and functional areas

  • Proven capabilities in strategic and conceptual thinking and planning

  • Proven negotiation skills

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of risk management programs and procedures for effective risk management

  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relate well with all levels of employees and management

  • Self-starter with the initiative to take on necessary tasks and issues proactively with no direction and supervision

  • Nature of Impact The GME Enterprise Risk Manager impacts the business primarily along the following dimensions:

  • Competence Building and Function Development: Enterprise responsibility to design, build, implement and drive the creation and integration of GME risk management awareness and competence within HCA.

  • Risk Prevention: Ensure that HCA will proactively develop risk prevention activities in order to guarantee that HCA does not suffer loss of reputation or financial resources. This will include; setting enterprise GME risk standards, tolerances, mitigation strategies, providing notification of risk events and subsequent guidance to stakeholders, developing and leading a cross-functional crisis management team to handle high priority risk events, assessing GME’s programs for inherent instability and executing projects to drive risk visibility.

  • IT systems: is responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining all associated risk tools.  Enterprise Standardization: ensure that each Division is improving its use of common and standardized risk procedures, IT systems, templates and standards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of experience and/or education required.

  • PREFERRED: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
