Director, Coding & Project Management - Remote

What you’ll do:

As aDirector, Coding & Project Management, you will beresponsible for the operational activities within the HSC Coding division. This includes oversight of the day-to-day operations for the HSC coding in accordance with accepted industry standards and practices and within established medical center(s) guidelines.

Responsibilities:

· Managing all functions of the HSC coding department, including creating/maintaining the coding processes, monitoring budget, taking part in the development of program, and carrying out leadership duties.

· The director takes responsibility for how the coding department operates each day and ensures that work assignments are completed on schedule by providing effective monitoring to both quantity and quality of workflow to ensure DNFC and quality goals are met.

· Responsible for working with vendors (both domestic and global) as required to support coding operational initiatives and staffing needs.

· Manage multiple projects, tasks, and teams under deadlines and with short notice using strong project management skills including practical usage of project plans and status reporting, budget and manage time and resource tracking, and with the ability to assist with vendor management.

· Create, maintain, and manage project implementation and work plan documents including project charters and scope statement, project plans, project Gantt charts, team structure and roles/responsibilities, governance plans, and kickoff meeting materials using project management. implement software systems using a structured systems deployment methodology.

· Serve as liaison between operations, technical departments, and vendors based on project, run meetings, manage agendas /minutes, and escalate risk to ensure that all targets and requirements are met.

· Compile and maintain deliverable repositories for project documents and best practices. Support project team members on the use of deliverable templates.

· Responsible for project planning and all process documentation. It also involves being responsible for quality delivery and team performance.

· The coding director aids in developing coding practice standards and policies and suggests the appropriate trainings to improve the performance of the team.

· Managing facility interaction and facility engagement, as well as coordinating with facility internal teams as appropriate.

· The coding director must always strive to enhance their knowledge and continually improve on established processes to be effective on the job.

· Perform tasks in accordance with company-wide project specific guidelines and standard coding practices acceptable in the industry.

· Help in creating or/and reviewing HSC coding related Work Instructions (WIs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

· Perform assessment of coding applications/tools and suggest the necessary input into them.

· Work collaboratively with the various HSC departments to ensure coding deliverables are achieved in a timely manner.

· Communicate coding process improvements as appropriate/approved to the team and ensure implementation.

· Provide assistance in creating, documenting, and maintaining coding related items, including Global Coding Guidelines, up-versioning documentation or Vendor or Internal related coding reports.

· Manages and is accountable for professional employees and/or supervisors.

· Sets team direction, resolves problems, and provides guidance to members of own team.

· Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges.

· Influences or provides input to forecasting and planning activities.

· Adhere to the ethical standards of coding as established by AAPC and/or AHIMA

· Adhere to and maintain required levels of performance in both coding quality and productivity as established by Lifepoint.

· Understand federal coding register and ensure guidelines are used and followed appropriately.

· Understanding of appeal process with knowledge how to speak to denial and/or appeals.

· Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.

· Maintain up-to-date Coding knowledge by reviewing materials disseminated/recommended by CMS.

· Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.

· Other duties at the discretion of the AVP.

What you’ll need:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent, and preferably with a bachelor’s degree in health care administration, health information management, or a related field.

Experience:Minimum of 7 years coding management experience in a large multi-specialty hospital or equivalent health related organization

Certifications:Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
