Job/Position DescriptionThe Vehicle Driver I performs routine (journey level) motor vehicle operations. Work involves operating motor vehicles ( automobiles, vans, trucks, and buses) used to transport passengers and cargo on a scheduled or on-call basis and coordinates vehicle maintenance. The Vehicle Driver generally works 8-5, M-F but schedule may vary to meet facility needs. The Vehicle Driver works under the direct supervision of the Vocational Business Development Coordinator. The Vehicle Driver I is the primary truck driver as well as transporting passengers to the off-cmpus work locations. The Vehicle Driver I serves as the back-up driver to the bus driver as needed. Assists in the safe loading and unloading of passengers and cargo. Completion of work requires occasionally originating new methods and/or techniques and decisions are varied but based on well-defined guidelines. Performs routine motor vehicle operations. Prepares and maintains forms and records pertaining to vehicle operation, transportation of passengers or cargo. May perform other duties as assigned. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.Essential Job FunctionsEstablish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with individuals served, co-workers and individual family members. Assists in the safe loading, unloading and transportation of passengers and cargo. Performs operator safety and sanitary schedules checklist on a daily basis. Completes all necessary documentation for passenger pick-up as well as cargo delivery and pick-up. Serves as back-up to the bus driver and other transportaion drivers. Ensures environment is free of safety hazards by correcting any hazards found and reporting them to the supervisor. Take actions as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals served, employees and visitors. Prevent or manage aggressive behavior among clients and administer CPR in emergency intervention. Report and document as required significant events and occurrences concerning the well-being and activities of individuals served. Become familiar with and abide by these rules of the agency and facility policy, procedure, and guidelines. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy. Will perform other related duties as assigned.Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Must possess valid Texas driverand#146;s license or obtain it within 90 days of hire. Applicants with an out-of-state driverand#146;s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.Knowledge Skills AbilitiesOperates motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, trucks, and buses to pick up various types of cargo and to transport passengers. Prepares and maintains records pertaining to vehicle operation. Performs or coordinates vehicle maintenance. Ensures vehicle passenger and cargo capacity is not exceeded, passengers use safety restraints, and cargo is distributed to reduce maximum axle loading. Secures and protects cargo. Fuels vehicles.
