BRENHAM - CITY OF Quality Control Tech in BRENHAM, Texas

Summary

Assists the Street Department with ensuring the department's quality control systems are implemented and maintained, including the responsibility of the sign shop and installation, repair, and replacement of street markers and traffic control devices. Operates equipment; and assists in the construction and maintenance of streets and drainage systems, as needed.

Starting Pay Rate: $18.03 per hour - CDL license is not required for thisposition.

*However, applicants who hold a current Texas CDL license may be eligible for a higher starting pay rate*

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates and oversees traffic control plans for special events and daily work zone safety for departmental jobs;
  • Inspects bridges and creek crossing internal to the City of Brenham and completes proper reporting, suggests and schedules repairs or modifications as needed;
  • Ensures quality control measures are followed on overlay projects and establishes densities;
  • Manages operations of the Sign Shop, including installation, repair and fabrication of street markers and traffic control devices in accordance with state laws and regulations;
  • Fabricates signs using a computer aided sign making system;
  • Removes vegetation that obstructs traffic signals and signs;
  • Operates small equipment such as weed-eaters, crack sealer and other equipment used in the maintenance of streets, drainage facilities and vegetation management;
  • Performs annual inspections of all traffic signals and signs, and maintains current database;
  • Gathers and analyzes data relating to the repair of dilapidated streets, curbs, and sidewalks;
  • Assists with patching, tamping, packing, and leveling hot mix, dirt, or other materials during road repair as needed;
  • Operates heavy equipment engaged in the construction and maintenance of streets, including backhoe, bulldozer, loader, mixer, and boom mower as needed;
  • Drives dump trucks to haul materials to and from work sites as needed;
  • Coordinates with the Superintendent on various departmental projects; and
  • Continually improving and updating knowledge of current and changing sign laws and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This is a non-supervisory position.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school graduation or its equivalent plus at least two years of signs and markings maintenance experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in handling, mixing, and applying herbicides is an advantage.

Knowledge Of

Principles of sign and markings maintenance procedures and techniques; and safety procedures for job sites and operation of equipment.

Skill/Ability To

Safely and effectively operate equipment; read manuals, letters, and memos; read, understand, and follow labels and safety material safety data sheets for herbicides and other chemicals, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Class B Texas commercial driver's license (CDL) is required. Employees who do not have a Class B CDL (Commercial) Texas driver's license, upon hire, must successfully complete the City of Brenham's CDL Training Program to obtain the required license within 180 days of hire.

The work environment requires that the employee exercise caution at all times and adheres to safety standards to avoid the risk of personal injury.
