BRENHAM - CITY OF IT System Administrator in BRENHAM, Texas
Summary
- The IT System Administrator II provides monitoring, maintenance, and technical support for the City's various Information Technology systems, including server hardware and software applications, and domains used by all City of Brenham departments.
Qualified Applicants with at least 5 years experience.
This position is NOT a remote position. All duties will be performed ON SITE at Brenham City Hall, or a locally located City of Brenham facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Maintain, upgrade, coordinate, and troubleshoot Active Directory, user accounts, domain controllers, file servers, and print servers
- Ensure daily backup jobs occur on all assigned servers
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot all server hardware, server operating systems, and installed server-based applications
- Responsible for server security, firewall configuration, Microsoft updates, and other security patches
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Microsoft Hyper-V virtual server environment, including host servers and shared storage
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Microsoft Exchange, email archiving software, and spam filter software
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot document management system software and server infrastructure
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL server software and associated applications
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot server infrastructure for Incode financial software
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot web-filtering software
- Coordinate, implement, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot functions of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, including Windows PC updates, software deployment, and client antivirus monitoring
- Monitor and maintain primary server room facility, including generator, HVAC systems, and UPSs
- Provide technical assistance to all City employees, especially when technical issues escalate within the I.T. department
- Obtain quotes and make informed purchasing suggestions for server infrastructure, related equipment, and software packages
- Respond to after-hours and weekend public safety technology related emergencies and needs; and
- Perform other duties as assigned by I.T. Manager.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field plus five years of experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge Of
- Methods, practices, and equipment used in information technology; Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems and applications; server hardware; SQL server; Microsoft Office Suite, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, FTP, SSL/TLS, PKI, DFS, iSCSI, SAN technologies, data cabling, server virtualization, firewalls, disaster recovery, server backup strategies, network topology diagrams and flow charts, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing department records,; department policies and procedures; standard office practices and procedures.

- Valid Texas driver's license
- Certification in A+, Network+, MCITP or MCSE are preferred.
