Applicants New to Federal Employment will receive a starting salary at: GS-03 Step 10 $45,870 GS-04 Step 9 $50,168 GS-05 Step 8 $54,654 Responsibilities You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts, buildings, private property, or restricted areas. You will maintain security equipment to confirm proper working order and functionality. You will use a computer system and software to prepare written reports of unusual situations and conditions encountered. You will speak with witnesses or persons involved in accidents to obtain statements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events. GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general and 6 months of specialized experience. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. A 40-hour work week is typical for this position. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Call back and emergency overtime maybe requirements of this position. Work may include assignment to train second, third or rotating shifts or weekend and holidays. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching and similar activities. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed for the most part is outdoors in the heat, cold, rain, and wind during the hours of daylight and darkness; with work in or under extremely dangerous conditions. The work environment regularly involves high risked with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environment stress which requires a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent may also work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, noise, and heat.
